I'd love to know the names they threw out before settling on that one. I hope for their sake their beers are great because that is an awful name to start a brewery/business with.

It sounds like he is planning n only having one flagship brew? Like a Heady-like business model? Or did I mis-read the article? Seems like an uphill battle.... But one I'd be happy to taste.

Well, give 'em a break, Lunacy and Village Idiot were already taken...

I don't know, in NJ I figure a new brewery's name without an animal is already a step in the positive direction. We've got crickets, flounders, river horses, flying fish, little dogs, turtles and "bolero snort" (?) already. Damn, it's the "Garden" State not the Menagerie State.

Never understood why the "craft" industry shied away from naming brewing companies after the founder (Anheuser-Busch, Pabst, Coors, Schell, Yuengling...) which once was the US standard brewery naming convention, and suggests a certain amount of pride in one's product. Especially in this case - the guy's name is Zuber - what a cool brewery/beer name. I guess that "end of the alphabet" aspect is always problematic, but you've got a great chance of free publicity with all those "Craft Beer from A to Z" type articles.

We do have Kane & Carton!!! But coming up with a decent name should be the easiest thing. If you can't do that, you are behind the 8-ball to start IMO. Bolero Snort is pretty puzzling too.

I think Zuber Brewing Company would be a great name.

    zubeer ....

tho there is actually some very cool angles that one could go with a brewery name OR individual beer names based on local history .....

I'm a huge fan of New Jersey Craft beer and will support any of these guys any chance I get. But, with 25 operational breweries and another 35 in the works (according to njcraftbeer website), when do we consider the market to be diluted? All of these guys can't survive, can they?

You're crazy if you think NJ is even close to that point. I'm in Morris County and don't have a brewery within 30 minutes of me. And how many of those 25 breweries even make above average beer?

I apologize if I wasn't clear in my post. That's exactly what I mean by diluted. At what point is the market watered down with below average to average beer? Where I'm located in Monmouth county there is at least a half dozen within 30 or so miles.,

NJ ranks 48th in both "craft" breweries per capita and gallons of craft beer per adult*. There's a long way to go before the market here is "diluted".

    * Granted that this stat is rather dubious - since most larger "craft" breweries have large markets outside their home state. Take Delaware, where, obviously thanks to Dogfish Head, they rank 4th, with 9.7 gallons per adult. But, given that NJ is one of the biggest markets for DFH, many of those +9 gallons are consumed in NJ, and in other states.

It's an anagram of the owners name.

I would say there's plenty of room for more local breweries to sprout up. The numbers cited above bear that out, and the state is so densely populated that it will be years before significant headway is made in catching up to other states relative to breweries per capita.

We as a state have a long way to go, and there's still a huge population of people out there who haven't fully discovered independent beer. Plenty of room!

Been keeping an eye on these guys for the past few months. When the tasting room opens up it will be the closest brewery to me. Haven't gotten a chance to try Double Dementia yet. Hope they also branch out into some other styles besides IIPAs. Looking forward to supporting them!
