I would actually question whether this would even warrant a lawsuit - not just because of jurisdiction issues but also because they're not even competitors in the same market so it really doesn't matter (which would be more than sufficient grounds to throw out a lawsuits in some jurisdictions).

From what I've seen on Untapped, the Becks "craft beers" don't seem overly popular.

    Has anyone tried them yet?

    Are people expecting too much?

Yeah I still haven't seen them in Bremen. The only person I know who has tried it has come away pleasantly surprised (probably from a position of not expecting much, so not necessarily meant to imply it's awesome).

Apparently they're in Rewes in Bremen now (not mine though, at least not as of 4 days ago or so):

I'm in Italy until Monday, but I'll have to swing down there and grab a sixer, see what the fuss is all about.

Edit: Doh - though I tried to link directly to the comment, seems it's the overarching thread - anyway, the part about Rewe is in there.

    Alright.

The Becks "crafts" are available at my local REWE in 330ml 4 packs.
I forgot the Price, but the single bottles were 1,05EUR.
I picked up 1btl of each and will try them while watching the Germany-Australia game today.

tried all 3 of those new Becks.

those beers def. werent made for craft drinkers, they were made for becks drinkers who might stumble upon them.
posted revs on all of em.

amber lager was boring but drinkable.
PA was way too malty and underhopped, the Köstritzer PA i had last year absolutely tears this to shreds
1873 Pils was barely a Pils at all, tasted more like a bad belgian blonde

Oof. Tried the Pale Ale today, and yeah, it was just as described. Sad, I wasn't looking for something world class, but was hoping maybe it'd at least be drinkable.

apparently köstritzer came out with a red/amber lager on april 1st.
was hoping theyd do something a lil more bold after the PA/witbier last year.

Oh dear, I picked up 3 mixed packs of each beer.

I haven't tried them yet but will do over the weekend.

    Not overly optimistic though.

Their Festbier was available in my area a few years ago and it was the best Wies'n Fest I'd ever had outside of fresh in Munich proper. If this Amber Lager is as good, I can't wait to find it... if I can.

So I tried all three of the Becks crafty beers:

To start with pale ale did at least smell like a pale ale should, however it just ended up being like a standard Pils with a few hops thrown in, drinkable but not memorable.

The 1873 Pils did taste like a very poor discount supermarket Belgian Blonde.

The Amber Lager was ok, like a Märzen.

I wonder if other major breweries will do a better job of craft beer, or will they just stick to what they know?

Well, they might be the classical "gateway beer" a la Blue Moon. I've said it before, I'll say it again, at least they have people talking about beer (be it good or bad) and not the price of beer.

So, today I picked up the following beers:

    Köstritzer Pale Ale

    Köstritzer Red Lager

    St Erhard Farmer

    St Erhard Saison

The St Erhard beers were brewed at Brauerei Rittmayer in Hallerndorf near Bamberg.

Hopefully the Köstritzer beers will better than the Becks craft sideline.

the köstritzer meisterwerke line up is quite good. never had the red lager, but pale ale and witbier are very enjoyable brews.
