Curious about this because tonight I broke open a beer and quickly dumped it out after my first taste, something I've only done three times in five years and several hundred beers. How many people have had this experience, how often, and on what? This one tonight was a Tommyknocker Imperial Nut Brown, anniversary edition from 2004. The date on it was 2005 (maybe the best by) but I only got it about six months ago, wasn't sure what it'd do at 9% but it was just a dead, flat, boring, brown ale. My other two mishaps were a Brewdog Psychics (2009 best by, opened in 2010) and a Brewdog Riptide (2008 best by, opened in 2010) and these were both horrid messes of disgust, flat, chalky, chunky, bad smelling, you name it.
On the flip side I've had beers that shouldn't do too well over time stand up fine and beers that aged into near perfection, leading me to believe it really comes down to each and every bottle. What all have you guys seen fail and what were your thoughts/surprises?

The only ones I recall are Fantome Pissenlit which poured a nice thick syrup, and Allagash White (coriander was too overpowering, just not a fan of that flavor). I really try and muscle through a beer though, no matter how bad.

I drain poured Ghostface Killah. It was nothing but pepper juice. It wasn't that hot or spicy to me. Also did not taste like a beer what so ever. Strictly pepper juice

I can only think of a couple beers that I've drainpoured cause they were so putrid and offensive. There have been other candidates that, in hindsight, I probably should not have drunk but sometimes I'm just blinded by stubbornness and stupidity (mostly though, stupidity). The logical part of my brain is all like 'wasted calories! don't do it!'. But then something primordial kicks in and usually convinces me that A) booze is sacred and B) part of being able to appreciate life's highs is to fully experience life's lows. Sometimes that means you have to just buckle down and chug that Crazy Ed's Cave Creek Chili Beer.

I just drainpoured my second on Friday. Picked up an Acadia Shipwreck Porter (non-bourbon barrel variety). I picked it up off the bargain rack for 4.99. This 2008 vintage tasted like a porter with a hearty dose of vodka (think Poland Spring or Rubinoff - the plastic bottle variety), a little red wine, and some paint thinner. I'm generally one to buckle down and find some redeeming quality, but I just couldn't handle this one. Four sips in and the rest of the bomber went down the drain.

LambickX was a drainpour. Opened it with a buddy, we both love a good lambic but it was putrid, just horsey funk and skunky hops. It was counterintuitive, a skunky lambic but it has zero acididty, a funky thin body and some wicked skunk. Gross.

I couldn't finish my glass, neither could my friend. A 26 dollar bottle down the drain.

As it happens, that same beer is one of the 'couple' drainpours I referenced in the post above.

Mikkeller Barrel Aged Black Hole and Wild Blue come to mind. TNP is not too far from the drain but for the money it didn't make it down. First to batches of homebrew were poured after the first gallon or so were gone, couldn't take having shitty beer on tap.

Mikkeller barrel aged 1000IBU was a drainpour for me, and pretty much anything from brewdog. Also my first year of homebrewing was pretty pathetic, lots of drainpours.

My first batch of homebrew, like a few others, was largely a drainpour. Somehow a porter got a little sour...which I actually might like now, but it was a couple years ago.

Off the top of my head, I've drain-poured: Idiot's Drool, Tommyknocker Nut Brown (to the person above, this is truly awful), Wild Blue, Wild Onion Hop Slayer (I got a bad can or something), Atwater Vanilla Java Porter, and definitely a few more.

Thankfully it was just part of a mix-a-six so the $$$ didn't bother me. I drank about half the bottle and couldn't go on any longer.

Drainpoured a few, most memorable was Charkootah Rye. Absolutely disgustingly smokey.

I don't like my drain enough to put beer in it.

Every Wednesday before bed I pour a bottle of Colt 45 down the drain for my homies. Why Wednesday you ask? Don't ask

A year old Samichlaus. Never had pure gasoline before, but have to imagine that this beer is very similar. Have another bottle that I'll try in a few years.
