I need some help on this. I don't know many JD barrel aged beers but I'm looking for the best ever made. I hear Mexican Cake is great but I would like other suggestions.
Any experience in this or do y'all have any information?
    Thanks!

Won't help you but Chestnut Brew Works in Morgantown, WV did an imperial porter in JD barrels that was awesome! JD barrels give a very unique taste rather than bourbon barrels.

You just opened a can of worms that I don't believe you're ready for.

Nope. Jack Daniels is Tennessee Whiskey.

Also, Bourbon is a subcategory of whiskey...

Jack Daniels is not a Bourbon...it's been charcoal filtered making it a Whiskey. All Bourbon is Whiskey...all Whiskey is not Bourbon.

One of the BA variations Mexican Cakes in 2013 was JD.

    My body is ready.

And, pray tell, what sort of spirit is "Tennessee Whiskey?"

A neutral spirit does not become whiskey simply because it has been charcoal filtered. Try again.

Nope. The only point of debate is the charcoal. People will try to argue that bourbon ceases to be bourbon when you mellow it with charcoal, which is, technically, legally, correct. Sort of. But that doesn't actually make it whiskey either. So, since it's basically bourbon, and not any other form of whiskey, I'm going to call it bourbon, because it's closest to that than any other liquor, whiskey or otherwise.

I always thought Jack was bourbon, made in Tennessee, and set apart by its charcoal filtering. Other than the state line an filtration, it's bourbon....or so I thought.

Call it what you want...it's still not Bourbon.

JD is not a bourbon by definition/process, but that is okay. I do love Gentleman Jack and I am not a snob about it. I find GJ to be far better than a lot of high dollar bourbons.

Have you tried the Single Barrel? I dig that one.

I have, and I liked it. Just prefer the GJ I guess.

Of course, if Single Barrel is on sale I will buy it.

I have toured the JD distillery too. It is free and a great tour.
