The BH special release bottles were a nice surprise when I got down there. Grabbed a case and a half, I got a new extra for various trades assuming I don't drink them all.

Favorite was the coffee variant MP.
I agree in that the nose on the coconut version would turn into the taste, but that was not quite the case. I did let that one warm up a bit and was pleasantly surprised since I felt the coconut came out a lot more.

I thought people were crazy for complaining about Booming Rollers as my first four pack about a month ago was fantastic. I just grabbed a four pack of the 3/20 batch and two cans in they both have an off almost skunky thing going on, and taste nothing like my first four pack. I don't know if that's the oxidation problems that have been discussed or what but it's disappointing.

The coconut was fucking fantastic. Friend from the east coast was visiting and said it was easily better than prop, which he loaded up on.

Easy to nitpick things, yeah, the glassware isn't perfect. Which brewery in town has the perfect glassware for every style and taster they serve?

Anyone try the 3/22 booming rollers? Grabbed a four pack yesterday. One tasted four days fresh, the other tasted oxidized and old, complete absence of that wonderful tropical fruit nose as well. The difference in color was pretty stark too. Wish I took a photo before pouring it down the drain. Thought they figured it out :x

Drinking a bottle of Black House w/ Coconut and Cacao Nibs and it's pretty lacking in coconut character. I was a big fan of this on draft in the past but both the cask on Wednesday and this bottle had an odd finish, and the bottle is especially lacking. Anyone else cracked a bottle yet and have a comparison to draft past experiences with it on draft?

How was the coffee character coming across for you? I'm generally a big fan of coffee stouts - and I thought both Bourbon MP and Bourbon MP w/ Coconut and Cacao were fantastic - but the Bourbon MP w/ Coffee had an aroma that bordered on fecal to me, and not in the good, chickenshit-from-Brett-and-bacteria sort of way. A friend of mine said the same thing after trying it, not sure where it's coming from since the Black House coffee blend doesn't usually throw something like that off, but it made that variant my least favorite by a wide margin.

Edit: Just to be clear, I thought the base beer was absolutely fantastic, the coffee variant just seemed off to me. If anyone has cracked a bottle and found it different from the draft coffee variant, I'd be curious to hear about it.

I also got that same note from the coffee variant but loved the other two. All was not right with the coffee version. I'm surprised to see so much praise heaped on it on these and other forums considering we were all drinking from the same keg which rules out "bottle" variation.

Opened my bottle of MP win Cocoa and coconut.

    Carbed! Yay.
Less coconut on the nose, more cocoa.
Taste is like a Mounds bar. Creamy.
    Fucking delicious.

I seem to be the only one I talked with that liked the coffee on draft.

I guess I like that vaguely fecal quality. Maybe I should change my handle to Coprahopiac.

Thanks for making me feel a bit better that I can't find Blooming Rollers. :slight_frown: The 2/18-ish batch was great.

Maybe the trick is to drink it out of a modern times coffee mug. Cause right now the can I opened is tasting amazing.

My coffee knowledge is lacking...at best since I never touch the stuff outside of a beer (ick..coffee). I did not get that fecal aroma that you mention which is odd since it was from the same keg. I basically got a coffee flavored coffee with a side of beer. I apologize, my ability to analyze coffee pales in comparison to a lot of others on here (or probably almost everyone else). What I did find odd was that my better half (who adores coffee) could not even pick out which one in the flight it was based on aroma. She kept thinking the regular ba version was coffee until she tasted it.

Was just at Lomaland yesterday to pick up my MP with Coconut and Cacao and had the 3 glass flight of MP variants. All three were great, but I especially liked the coffee version. I did not pick up on any fecal smell.

Also had some Devil's Teeth (old ale) with Java Coffee while I was there--that might have been my favorite of all.

Snagged a bottle of the Black House with Coconut and Cocoa, too (wasn't on tap, though). Can't wait to pop that one.

Tried all 3 last night as well. Thought they were all great. Really well done. Didn't get fecal flavor on the coffee, but it wasn't my favorite of the 3. Also, really enjoyed the wine aged saisons they had on and grabbed a bottle of BH with cacao & coconut. Good stuff all around.

So I see this thread was knocked off the front page...

Bought the Black House w/ Coconut/cocoa today, can't wait to get into it.

After you crack it open, you will ask yourself, "why didn't I buy 2?"

Edit: For maximum coconut, let it warm a bit.

It's truly a great beer. Almost reminds me of last snow..kinda. The only thing missing is more body, but it's hard to blame them with it only clocking in at 5%. Hope they re-do it, but as a monsters park variant (non-ba) to be able to produce enough for distro. The BA Coconut Monsters Park is phenomenal, but this widely distro'ed idea would be a good fix till the next ba release.

After buying 2 I asked myself why do I have so much beer and because of that can't buy a case of this?

I'm all in for a non BA Monster's Park variant with those spices too. Or unlimited BA MP with coconut!

I'm Polish, so... you know...but seriously, I only bought >case of one beer twice so far: beatification and xocoveza. Oh and Pliny. But since my xoco stash is almost depleted, I would definitely buy a case of coconut BH. Also, I like to share my favorite beers with friends and regular trading guys, so case does not last as long as you would think. Same with Nelson, I could have a case of it at all times.
