Weird question everyone, but I always wonder if you guys do the same thing.. When your nose/sinuses are congested do you wait and drink the average/go to beer in your fridge and save the really good dank tasty ones for when you can completely taste every note and appreciate it? Everything ipa tastes like a extra bitter ruination when I'm sick

Drink the less exciting beers when congested and save the special ones for when your senses are at their sharpest!

I absolutely do! Id hate to waste something I traded for or something that I know is amazing when I can't get the full experience due to congestion. Sometime, even when I'm not sick, I'll even take a sinus/decongestant pill an hour or so before I plan to have a beer just to ensure Ill get the absolute best nose out of the beer.

I tend not to drink at all when I'm sick. You're body is under enough strain when fighting a virus/infection without adding alcohol into the equation!

Ugh, I just turned 30 on the 13th and had 4 pack of sip of sunshine, lunch from MBC, and captains daughter all waiting fresh for me to celebrate. Then I got a hellacious cold for a week. My fridge became a very depressing/frustrating place that week, but I had to wait. So much is lost otherwise. Apparently I am a far more mature and patient man in my 30's haha.

Yes, it's also a good time to clean out the middle of the road beers collecting dust in your fridge.

Stick to bland if sick or congested. Or just abstain. It's hard to appreciate it completely otherwise

I avoid when I'm sick or otherwise congested because of allergies. Alcohol compromises the immune system and my palate is unable to appreciate the beer. What's the point? Better to wait. The beer is not going anywhere.

Sometimes I get congested after started drinking.

The positive thing I can take away from it is that when I blow my nose, I can smell the beer again during the nose-blow, as if the beer was trapped in my boogers.

I don't even drink while congested. Just water. I don't want to waste the beer by not even being able to taste it.

I have allergies and when I'm congested I avoid the good stuff and keep with the old standbys. If its really bad I go with bourbon then I quit caring about whether or not I can smell.

No beer if I'm bunged up, plenty of whisky and curry though!

Haha, not so much (not sure if you're being serious or just being humorous). In general, alcohol of any kind will prolong a normal sickness, especially ones involving congestion, as it increases mucus production.

The anti-viral compounds would definitely help keep colds away if, say, you were taking a tincture of hop oil or something of the sort, but adding alcohol and malt to the equation just fuels the sickness fire.
