Any thoughts on mixing other types of alcohol during beer drinking sessions? I will sometimes drink a scotch before a beer drinking session or having it at the end as a nightcap. For me, they complimenting each other nicely. Any other ideas?

Always like a shot of bourbon after/with dinner like my great/ good taps b4 dinner so not exactly mixing it but having it in the same session

That was probably the exact thought someone had, which sparked the desire to barrel-age beer.

A bar that one of my clients works at has a mixed drink that is Tito's vodka, orange juice, Duvel, and a splash of ginger soda. The Duvel is the dominant flavor even though it is about 1/5 of the drink.

I have no problem going back and forth, or mixing alcohols.

Not what I had in mind. I meant are there certain types of alcohols that you like before or after a beer drinking session. Not mixing them together.

I don't usually mix my alcoholic beverages (and I do dig Scotch, tequila, gin, and other spirits and certain mixed drinks). No rules about it, mind you, just that I tend not to...

I have a nightcap Scotch or Bourbon after beer frequently. Probably will do so in a couple of hours. Cheers!

Yes (usually scotch or bourbon before), as well as in between beers. Sometimes, I add shots of bourbon or tequila to my beers.:grimacing:

Generally I don't feel any desire to mix it up between different kinds of alcoholic beverages. Just as there are several varieties of different wines that can be used before dinner, with varous foods at dinner, and for enjoyment after dinner, there are enough different beers its possible do the same and to mix and match beers with various foods and occasions. The same can also be done with malt whisky if someone wants.

So for me the point is there's enough differences between various styles of the same kind of beverage (wine, beer, whisky) that switching from kind of beverage to another doesn't come into play. Also I find it easier to ensure compatibility and and complementarity of flavors, etc. by using only different versions of wines, of beers, or of malt whiskies.

Trust me I've had many Boilermakers over the years. No boilmakers though........yikes that's actually kind of disgusting.
Maybe they should develop a cocktail with that name using the phlem found in some of those b/a beers plus whiskey.
    Hey ya never know...

If my in-laws are coming over for dinner, then bourbon will most likely start the evening before a beer is cracked. After they leave, bourbon will most likely find it's way into my glass again.

I have done a cap of gin before switching from dark to lighter beers . It works for me. Clean but floral :sunglasses:
