If you had to stick with one "type" of flavor and aroma profile in your IPA's, would it be the juicy, fruit-forward tropical and citrus kind, or the floral, grassy pine-forward variety? I prefer a strong pine character in my IPA's; though I thoroughly enjoy all of the tropical and citrusy IPA's as well.

I'm in for tropical, but truth be told it barely edges out dank resinous pine. Thank goodness I really don't have to choose only one.

I hate piney beers. If it has to be hoppy, I choose red grapefruit and orange like hops.

Tropical. Fruit juice up front and hop bite to finish. Love it

I hope these aren't the only two choices.

Don't make me choose. I love them both. It's like asking which child do you love more.

I like both and both have their positives and negatives. I tend to lean toward the piney side though.

Honestly though you can't go wrong either way!

Both styles are awesome. I can enjoy a Sierra Nevada Hoppy Lager and chase it with a Torpedo.

When done well both are great, but if I could only have one it would be the tropical or citrus fruit. I had my first chillwave yesterday and found it to be a great example of a big juicy IPA.

It needs some pine. But tropical is very pleasant.

I love pine. Tropicals cool too. As long as it doesnt taste like onions.

    No citrusy vote? :slight_frown: :stuck_out_tongue:

I like a citrus fruit character, softened by tropical fruits, and underscored with pine - I am also fond of a pine-citrus balance with and undercurrent of tropical juiciness. I really couldn't vote for just one or the other, even if citrus was a choice. Actually, I dig on the whole spectrum and its many permutations, including dank vibes and even the oft-reviled "onion" element :grimacing: (which never tastes like onion per se but I know what people mean )

I truly could not pick one. IPA's are my favorite style of beer and have favorites on both the pine and tropical sides.

It is extremely hard to vote for one or the other...there are so many other essences that could be included...Greywulfken put it very well...

Definitely tropical. If I want piney I'll have a gin & tonic.

What IPAs best represent pine? I've always been confused by this. I know what pine smells like, but I've never smelled or tasted anything that I'd describe as pine in any IPA, though often see others using the term. Thanks!

Based on these comments, you wouldn't expect to see a 75%+ tropical vote.
