i know there has been recent discussion that troegs nugget nectar is overrated but I disagree. It's a great beer easily attainable to those who don't have the time to trade or an in at a store.

That said, last year when I went down the craft beer rabbit hole, nugget nectar was ranked 63 on the top 250. In the past week it has left the list.

Maybe it's trends or simply better beers are out there, I think it's a mix of the two.

I just wanted to note my respect for the beer that helped get me into craft and is still a solid beer to go for come every new year.

    Cheers

You may have a typo in the beginning of the second sentence.

The 250 is so volatile these days it is hard to really determine anything from it anymore. The amount of people who are getting 1oz pours of a newly released beer and rating it all 5's is just making belief in the ratings system difficult to say the least.

I love my NN as well, although this year I felt like it wasn't as good as years past. Nevertheless, its a solid beer.

It still ranks #1 on the Amber/Red Ale list. Maybe it's a style bias, though many out there in BA land believe it tastes more like an IPA than an Amber.

    And there is your answer.....

Cut production by 90% and cease distributing outside of Dauphin county, Nugget Nectar is in the Top 10.

It has been promoted! Its on the list of Beers of Fame which is a much more substantial and significant listing than being on the top 250 beers list.

I love Nugget Nectar, look forward to it every year. I stopped paying attention at the top 250 when I tasted Heady Topper.

With new over-hyped, hard to find beers being rated every day, credited beers don't stand a chance.

I haven't had a problem getting it for the last say, five years maybe? Which of course has made me very happy since I love it. The fact that it is no longer on the top 250 tells me that it has been available for so long that we are no longer reviewing it in droves. Isn't that what generates the top beers? Number of new reviews? So that sense of "it's just not as cool and exclusive enough to bother with" for newcomers as it once was for so many could have hurt the overall top 250-ness. Glad to see it move over to beers of fame though, where it should be.

NN is 31 on the Beers of Fame. I think that is the better list to track, because it is full of beers that have proven themselves over the test of time. The Top 250 seems much too weighted toward what is new and popular among the BA crowd for my taste.

I agree with this 100%. I had never, ever reported a beer review for deletion until the last EBF. Then suddenly there was this deluge of completely cynical reviews. One guys straight up admitted to not having had the beer, but since he was waiting in a long line it must have been good so he gave it a 5.

I have never had Nugget Nectar before this year. I have to say I was not impressed at all. As a matter of fact it was so ordinary that I will probably never drink it again. Too many other better options.

I have made similar observations over the past 6 months. Perhaps it has always been this volatile, but a lot of beers that I have always enjoyed seem to be sliding rapidly down the top 250 list. I don't really care, if anything I should be happy because it makes some really awesome beers way easier to get since they aren't 'top 250' and hence don't get the hype and truck chasing / can only get via trade thing going on.

I agree. I don't care at all about the Top 250 list, the list I look to for beers to try is the Beers of Fame

Modern Times makes very good beers, but for those of us in states that touch Pennsylvania it is a *touch* easier to get Nugget Nectar.

Personally I don't think G'knight and nugget nectar have the same intentions. G'Knight is closer to Alesmith Yulesmith (winter).
