I always open my beer with my glass at hand in case it starts to erupt violently to avoid spilling the liquid. There are various reasons for gushing, not always contamination. I just opened a Founder´s All Day IPA and it gushed, even though it´s been resting for a couple of days in the fridge, and flavour was excellent.

I always tell my friends to be ready when they buy craft beer because it might gush and they never listen, then they spill precious (and some times very expensive) beer.

Are you always ready if your beer starts to gush?

I had an early experience with Pride & Joy that drove this home. Can't say I'm perfect, but I do try to have the glass ready when I crack open the brew.

Can't say that I follow proper gushing preparedness steps.

If you're consistently buying beer that gushes then something is wrong with that beer. I can only think of one I've had in the last few years.

I typically open beer over my sink, just to be safe

Never happened to me either. I more or less fall victim to the aggressive pour.

Who useses a glass? Proper protocol involves immediately chugging the foam untill it hurts.

Definitely. Certain sours, brett beers, saisons, etc. can gush, especially if they've been jostled around or stored on their side.
Sometimes they just randomly do it.
No clue why, but I get gushing from normal Sam Adams beers when they're stored on their side, too. Not all of them, but probably 30% of the time.

I constantly buy new beer from nano and micro brewerys for review. This happens more than you would expect. And yet mi last gushed beer was a Founders.

Yes, I drink a lot of high carb styles that I pour at cellar temps.

If you aren't getting gushers from time to time you are
    A. missing out on some spectacular beer
    and/or
    B. Serving your beers too cold.

I really think that imported beers that gush is from bad storage or handling in transportation from another country, this happens a lot in Mexico. Cheers!
