Of the new beers you have tried, how often
do they turn out to be WOW beers?

According to my beer journal, of the last 202
new beers I have tried their were 13 that I
rated 9 or better ( my WOW level ).

    How about you?

I think 1 in 25 is a nice number. I mean there are good beers but few make you say wow.

Every beer that's in my hand is a "wow" beer.

If you are getting wowed more often than 1 in 50 your wow level is way to low.

Does that include "wow this beer is terrible"?

I said 1 in every 21-30. Gotta keep those special beers "special".

Everytime. From my homebrew kegs.

I grade on a curve since I'm woefully inept at most things, so take it for what it's worth.

I am rarely "wowed" by beer, BUT it is because there is so much information on the internet telling you what the "wow" beers are. Consequently this also leads to disappointment when the hyped beer is not that good.

I recently tried Founder's Curmudgeon for the first time, and this was truly a "wow" beer for me. I agree with the previous post, a few times a year.

I go to quite a few tastings. I would think 1 in 50+ is about right. I am easy to please but hard to wow.

I guess I'm easy to wow. I'd say about 1 in every 10 beer purchases is a "wow."

Not necessarily a "holy shit this is the best beer ever," but certainly a wow.

Maybe it's because I can remember a time when there weren't thousands of beers on the shelves at any local store.

I would imagine that everybody's definition of "wow" is a bit different. Although I do occasionally say "wow" . . . It's not as often as it used to be for me.

1 in every 20-30, but let me be clear: Almost every other beer I drink is a "like a lot" beer. And that's good for me. I'm easy.

Wow is a 4.75 or higher, for me at least. I had 261 beers new to me in 2014, 12 got a 4.75 (none a 5).

I'm just guessing here, based on a page or two of my beer reviews the past 100, but it seems that I strike gold every 20 beers or so... My "WOW" factor usually equates to a 4.5 or better rating...

I've been fortunate to have a lot of excellent beers lately but on average, I get one WOW beer per every 15-20. Lots of great beers in between and a few not so great beers but generally speaking, a WOW beer really has to leave a memorable impression.

I also refrain fom rating beers a perfect 5. A perfect 5 is the phantom we're all chasing.

It's pretty well the same as rating a woman out of 10. They might be a 10 on the surface but everyone is guranteed to have their flaws (as I have found out a few times myself ).

Unless you've found that perfect 10 (or 5 in the case of beer), chances are there is someone (or something) better waiting to be discovered.
