Mom and dad have never experienced craft beer and are both curious and willing to try a small tasting event. I planned on a six pack that basically keeps it simple and spotlights 6 different styles with a standard "go to" version of each. Nothing crazy as I don't want to scare them off from the get go. So here's what I was thinking.

    Hefe- Kellerweis or Weihenstephaner
    Pills- Prima Pills
    Pale- Sierra Nevada
    IPA- 60 Minute
    IIPA- Dirt Wolf

Can't decide on the 6th. Should I keep with the hop progression and go barleywine with Big Foot? Or completely shake it up and go stout with Expidition?

    And go

I'd add something darker. Expedition would be nice.

You have 2 victory beers. I would go with storm king for consistency.

You're very hop heavy, especially considering they are beginners. Hops aren't always well taken for beginners. You most certainly need something dark in your line-up. If you don't want to go with a stout, at least try a porter or even a nice, simple black lager.

In Ohio, I'd add Ed Fitz Porter, and invite me over...nice line up

You should offer an amber, brown, or red. Maybe a milk stout? Hell, you know your parents more better than we do. I'm just saying', everyone overlooks the "basic" styles because they aren't hop bombs.

Going off others, I'd skip the pils (maybe a Kölsch instead), or a darker beer. As @Boomer4ES stated, balance with some malt.

You could also consider something like a dortmunder gold or something from great lakes - ease them into the tastings with something familiar, but way more awesome.

What about Belgians? Throw in Chimay Red and Saison Dupont.

I was gonna say that! Seems obvious in OH, and some malt to balance things out could be welcome.

Definitely sub one of the three hoppy offerings with a Brown ale or something more approachable.

Edit: Actually 4, since prima pills is hoppy too.

Good idea. Another thought is something that Uinibroue does - they have a 6 pack with 1 each of their beers. If they end up liking a basic belgian, you could get them the mix 6 from unibroue as a follow up to the tasting for something to work through - splitting each one and trying a bunch of belgian styles.

Edit - they call it unibroue sommelier selection - I see it all the time for $12, which is a pretty good deal for 6 Unibroue 12oz ers

If she enjoys red wines go with a quad or belgian strong.

    This...

And I might drop the IIPA in favor of an Amber (as previously mentioned) or something of that ilk. I think a regular IPA will bring plenty of hop character for the uninitiated.

Yeah, I might pass on Dirt Wolf unless your goal is to show a pretty far end of the spectrum.

I'd definitely vote something darker as well. Porter sounds great.

I was surprised by the beers given your setup.
I'd take out both Victory beers even though they're great. Definitely do NOT include Bigfoot.
Mix it up much more. Add an English brown, mid-ABV stout, Belgian Trappist, and/or Boston Lager.

I would have mixed it up more, but I agree with what being said, get a stout in there for sure...
