I drink what I'm in the mood for at any particular moment and I don't give a shit what anyone else thinks. Usually it's craft beer, but when I bring out the occasional Coors Banquet my friends say "With all the great beer you have, you're drinking THAT?"

Don't let anyone else tell you what you can and can't drink.

I have mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, I have little patience for snobbery.

Anyone that tells you that you should be ashamed of yourself because of your beer selection needs a serious priority adjustment.

Drink what you like and don't allow other people to define what you like.

On the other hand, Statements like:

Sounds like the case is trying to be made, that drinking five beers quickly is preferable to thoroughly enjoying a beer your really like.

Given the choice, I think I would smell Pliny 10 times, rather than drink 5 beers in the same amount of time.

Well, maybe yes and maybe no.

As it turns out someone's ability to pick up flavors from various beverages and then describe them can be improved with experience and practice. They may not be using terms you agree with but its not all BS and for some reviewers is a real ability developed with practice, etc.

Given how many people ever even get a chance to sniff PtY that would be a better choice in my view.

IDK why you would be at a bar in Vermont and not order a great beer that is both local and fresh for one that had to travel thousands of miles from your home state? It would be like going to a bar in Belgium and ordering a summer shandy.

The only reason to bust your chops is if you pass on Heady and you've never had it before. Seems from your post that is highly unlikely, so your friend should get a grip or you should laugh it off because he was tugging your chain. Either way, nothing too serious here...move along.

Amongst my craft beer drinking friends I have the reputation for being the nerd. They know I am a pretty serious home brewer and am always trying to learn something new about beer. This provides great cover when we go to festivals and breweries. Most of them admit they aren't interested in trying anything but IPA's and BA stouts. I order everything from Gose and Pilsners to DIPA's and barley wines. I try traditional styles from Germany and the UK and I also love to try things like brett IPA's and Xocoveza. Instead of giving me hard time, they say I'm 'studying'. Also, I LOVE Shiner Bock and have a clone of it fermenting as we speak...

I don't think we need to pick apart that one statement too much. I get what the OP is saying. I agree with you though, quality is more important than quantity.

But for me, no matter what you're drinking, the beer should always be secondary to the people you're drinking it with. If I'm out having beers with friends or whatever, for the most part we are not talking about the beer itself. We are talking about our lives, what's going on in the world, sports, politics, work, whatever. In other words, the beer is there to bring us together, but it's not the reason we are together. We might say, is that beer good or whatever, but it's not like we are hanging out specifically to discuss every nuance of the beer at the expense of communicating with each other about things that are actually important or meaningful.

Now, BA is a site where the only thing we all have in common is our love of beer. So talking about the beer as a primary topic on here makes sense. But if I'm out and I see people swirling their beer, sniffing their beer, and focusing more on their beer than on the people they're with ... well, I just feel kind of bad for them. That's just me though, do what you want.

Bottom line though, as @drtth says, sounds like OP needs to find some new friends.

There are more people like that than not like that in this hobby. Seek out the latter. There is tons of caring about what other people drink and/or caring about what other think about what you drink. It's all nonsense. Drink what you think tastes best. If your up in MA I'll buy you a shiner. Just enjoy.

Honestly, in my 8 years of frequenting this site, I have seen rants much like yours. The only difference being that the beer names and places aren't always the same.

I really don't know if you're being genuine here or if you're just trolling people who drink craft beer.

As far as I'm concerned you're welcome to drink whatever you like but based on two of your three reviews and this thread it would appear that maybe you should start BBQ Corn Nuts Advocate or, as Brad007 suggests above, maybe you're just trolling.

Did it occur to you that maybe he just prefers the latter beer? As has now clearly been established, it tastes better with corn nuts.

Ya, I agree. Some people take it a little too far. I consider myself to be a beer snob in that I never buy anything BMC. I even try to avoid the breweries they've bought. But I don't care what people drink. That's their business. I have enough problems of my own than to worry about what beer people are drinking.
