I had an aged Bottle and it was quite divine. One bottle I gravitate to when I see it.

Wanted to try something new for NBS, and Russian River Supplication seemed appropriate.

Starting with the appearance, there was a lot more pink to the color than I was expecting -- a muddy amber rose sort of thing.

Both the aroma and taste were lighter, subtler and smoother than most of the sours I've had. I can't say the pinot noir barrel aging was as evident as, say, bourbon barrel aging -- but the beer was definitely quite mellow, with blended flavors, and some fruity notes that I suspect were from the barrels and not just the addition of cherries.

Picked this up after waiting in line for a taste of Younger a little while back (and not making it to the front of the line in time). I love Elder and still want to try Younger, but this is more my style anyhow.

Yes, another great BA Tripel. I was fortunate enough to have in on draft in a tap takeover. Only got a taster glass, but oh so good. There were all the other high-end offerings like Victor and Victoria, too. That was an expensive flight.

I also think @utopiajane you, and me should create a sub-sub-sub group for our love of tripels. Shall we call it "Menage-a-tripel?" (NO, we should not).

Well switchin to Virginia now... and seeing where this leads...

Had some interesting two brews from these guys, one a bit of a dud that seemed to have potential, the other a very impressive saison. If anything... I want to see if they can make a basic Belgian Pale Ale... so what happened???

    well let's find out....

Magic Beaver Belgian-Style Pale Ale - Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery

    Lickinghole Creek - Magic Beaver
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

    Review below!!

    ------------------------------------------

Poured from the can into a tulip glass. Canned Jan 30 2015.

Pale amber, hints of copper orange and rust like body. Up to the light glows with a solid tangerine orange presence. While not a thick monster there is virtually no discernible noticeable carbonation, reaching to a simple one finger head, off tan to white with a creamy appearance. Manages some good staying power and population, settles to half finger and doesn't want to budge, a few circle sheets of lacing while drinking.

Interesting house? yeast character. Hints more to saison with an earthy bent, sage and florals really burst out. Faint pine notes and a bit of dank hide in the background as well making for an interesting take. Small hint of dry to soft cookie dough as well. Not sure where this is going, but comes off as hinting hop forward American with some real out there Belgian yeast strain.

Really hard to actually call this a Belgian pale ale on first sip. Incredibly classic Columbus driven hop blast in the mid palate, a true sucker for that sort of thing as a Columbus fan but really doesn't fit. Chewy malt body and depth with a steely angle that doesn't quite get metallic, flirts with grapefruit, and even a bit of tropical character and pineapple somehow washes in. Chewy malt body, with a biscuit quality as well more like a classic American pale ale. Bitter hop and tolerable finish, and a touch of mild sugar.

This is a real stretch calling this Belgian, but I suppose it just barely passes. Belgian? Barely. Confusing… Totally.. Delicious and memorable.. Oh heck yeah.

    4s all the way....

    ---------------------------------------

That aroma though was so similar to the previous Rosemary saison in a way... Interesting to see where the goods will go for these guys being a Farmhouse well water brewer out in Goochland VA. Time will tell!!

    Cheers!

Maybe. Stop the 3, hope against hope, and boy do I ever love Frank Kaminsky. This is a person of real character. I'm a Carolina guy, but I'd love to see Wisconsin take it! Duke by 4.

This grenade was chucked into my bunker by @Roguer. He has some pretty solid stuff at his disposal. It's not part of my official review, but my biggest complaint about this beer is that I couldn't take a damn picture of it. I either took shots of myself, or drowned the thing out with light. I tried to take one outside and was blind for about 10 minutes…

12 oz can. No date visible.

Pours a completely opaque and cloudy golden color with a big frothy white head.

Smell is a very earthy and dank. Subtle hop aromas though. Very fruity.

Taste is tropical. Sweet, dank, not very bitter. No grapefruit. More like orange, lemon, mango. Something like a rosemary or thyme in there to me too. The malt base is fairly prominent. With no abv listed, I would guess it is under 10% for sure. Not noticeable at all.

Feel is excellent. Very smooth, like whipped buttercream.

I love the name. May be my favorite. However, if you are going to throw a name like this on your can, it better deliver. Hop heads seeking out that bitter, smack in the face will probably be a bit disappointed. This is a very smooth, well balanced East Coast style with a creamy, full body that follows along the lines of Heady, and Sip of Sunshine. I thought it was excellent, just not in the same group as some of the other brews from the region.

In lieu of no Walking Dead tonight, a few pics for you other fans. I think I will use Sunday nights to get caught up on Saul. Cheers!

Happy Easter nbs players. Got the in-laws out of the way and all the daily activities so I'm dedicating the rest of the day to drinking beers. Beauty of a day here on long island with lots of sunshine and really the first true feel of true spring. Got a slight shower coming in but no big deal.

My new beer today is a Archibald, an English-style barleywine, from Barrier Brewing in Oceanside NY. I can't really recall seeing this style from any of the locals so I was pretty excited to score a bottle. Apparently they pre-aged the ale for 12 months.

The pour is a murky amber color with brown tinge tones. The nose hits with sugars, heavy syrup, and fruit notes. I mostly get plum and raisins. The brew is only 9.5% but the initial sip really kicks you in the god damn face with alcohol. A nice carry over from the nose with lots of dried/candied fruity notes. The mouth feel is heavy, chewy, and sticky. More intense alcohol burn on the finish. The malt/hop profile is pretty well balanced.

Overall I think its a very nice representation of the style. I do enjoy big time booze but this one could be a bit over powering for some. I also really felt that the alcohol mellowed out a bit as it warmed. I'm thinking low 4's but I will submit after finishing the bottle,

Good afternoon to all you great fellow NBS followers. I hadn't expected to be able to get a post in for this NBS but unexpected situations have settled out so I am once again here and sharing my opinion on another New England beer.

    Stoneface brewing Mozaccalypse

This beer poured a dark orange color when oured into my tulip glass.

The nose was most of the citurs overtones from the Mosiac and Azacca hops in this fine blending of beer. There is a slight hint of malt that lingers in the background.

The taste is smooth with very tropical fruit and citrus flavors coming through to the palate.

The mouth feel is semi dry but very smooth with no lingering aftertaste.

All in all this is another great DIPA from Stoneface. I ended up with a 4.42 overall rating for this beer.

I want to thank @cincysig for making it able for me to enjoy this wonderful beer on this Easter Sunday.
    Cheers to all!

I was born in the 70s so I my viewpoint is that of someone who's into much of the music of that era rather than someone who actually lived it, but I think what was so cool about it was it was the first time people began realizing that there weren't a lot of rules to rock music, so there was a lot of musical exploration happening at the time that can't ever happen again.

As soon as the air came out of the slowly opened cap I could smell the raspberries.
Give er a good hard swirl in the glass, close your eyes and inhale and its like a raspberry chocolate cake. Same can be said for the taste. Even after a sip, the aftertaste reminds me of a raspberry chocolate cake. Not the decadent, super rich kind, but in no way a bad way.
Every Straight to Ale bottle @richj1970 has sent me has been legit and this is no exception.

Good afternoon and hope everyone's Easter basket held a new beer today. Good things so far.

Yesterday was the first softball practice for me with my co-workers. We're a scrappy bunch, I'll say that. Haven't played in 5 years, but it came back to me fairly quickly. What also came quickly was my body's protestations to the sudden burst of physical activity.

So today I walked 18 holes, and scored pretty well for my first local round of the year (1st in a month). Now I might not be able to get off couch for my second planned NBS. Needed a lighter beer first after the round: Andechser Weissbier Hell - Klosterbrauerei Andechs.

Pours nicely yellow, hazy with copious white head. Nose is strong, crisp, sweet banana with a light tart fruit accent, apple maybe. Taste follows the nose, with added noble hop bitterness for balance. A wonderful choice to start this nicely warm spring Sunday.
