Imagine not being able to cross the Charles Bridge without seeing at least two groups of flannel-clad, dreadlocked white kids surrounding (and singing along with) a guitarist crooning "Give Peace a Chance." At least they stayed out of the old-school places I liked to hang out in like U Medvidku, U Tomase, and U Zlateho Tygra.

Thanks for correcting, I've been trying to find a photo of the bottle i grew up seeing, I remember it being more green. You must be right that it had to have been pretty light in abv. So many labels and bottles now but i can't figure out which is pre or post Iron curtain. Anyway, not all that important.

You are understanding. USSR controlled production of everything, in the case of beer, variety wasn't considered important enough. I guess Beer was BEER. Just like the only vodka i remember ever seeing was Stolichnaya

Shit! And Patrick Swayze is dead! All our hope rests on Charlie Sheen and C. Thomas Howell. Wolverines!

Lea Thompson hasn't been useful for anything since the 80's. Caroline in the Shitty more like.

Apologies- I wasn't correcting so much as goofing off a bit. But allow me to extend a sincere welcome to Beer Advocate, and to say that I look forward to yur contributions.

You made me dig further which is a great thing, i was just a kid after all. Looks like different factories had different labels, so it was regionally different. Most of them were 11% (someone in this thread says that's the density but the abv is about 6% this doesn't really make sense to me)

all of the labels read bottle price 30 Cents

I've heard that in the Czech Republic you order beer by degrees brix (or percentage of sugar in solution), so this might be similar. But, you're right, the numbers don't seem to relate. 11 degrees would be an o.g. of around 1.044, which would make a beer with around 4.4% AbV, not 6%- so something else is going on.
