I live 90 minutes from the General Store and a case of Saturn was well worth the drive for $43. Even if you decide you don't want that much, you shouldn't have a hard time trading it or sharing it with friends. And if that isn't enough to make you go, you need to stop in the Eccentric Café for some Saturn, Mango Habanero Oberon and Coffee Consecrator Dopplebock.

I had my first one tonight, and I agree with Pauly's evaluation. The bourbon is the most prevalent flavor, but it's not a bourbon bomb. The beer's medium-to-dark color is probably an indication that light-flavored malts were used, so it's not full-flavored, and it's a stretch to call this a barleywine. But I don't know who started this barleywine thing because the label just refers to it as a malt beverage.

    The Bringer
    of Old Age

    STYLE: Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine

    RELEASE DATE: April 2015

    ABV: 11.5%

    COLOR: Deep copper

    GLASSWARE: Snifter

TASTING NOTES: The fifth release in the Bell’s Planets Series is strong, robust and complex. Saturn is a bourbon barrel aged barleywine loaded with notes of toffee, caramel, oak and vanilla that finishes with a warming touch. The first beer brewed for this series, Saturn has been aging in casks since July 2014. True to its name, this beer is well suited for vintage aging.

    SHELF LIFE: Unlimited

But Larry Bell is on record as saying that he doesn't necessarily like to fit a beer into a specific style. :grinning:

What's the likelihood that this lasts throughout the weekend at the general store? Definitely looking for this one, and mig make the drive up for a case at the price.

I hope to someday have a palate so refined that I can say "Bells Mars sucked".

Generally when one says tallest midget (in this case, you referencing Saturn, which is a part of the Bells Planet series), they mean that the object in question is good compared to inferior competition.

I would think that Mars would be part of the competition since it's also part of the planet series.

If Saturn gets a review from you "Tallest midget...cant resist" then I assume you thought the rest of the series sucked.

If there is some other inside joke or cerebral message I'm missing then I apologize for my ignorance.

    Cheers!

You seem incredibly offended at the obvious joke (but maybe that disclaimer "sorry couldn't resist" and the little smiley face were both a little ambiguous to you, and you misinterpreted it as trashing your favorite beer; in which case, let me clarify: it was a joke). Or perhaps you're just trolling. Either way, apology accepted.

I saw the smiley face and Mars isn't my favorite beer, I just didn't get the tallest midget reference, which you never did clarify.

I don't wish to hijack this thread or engage in a flame war.

    Cheers!

If anyone is in the Lansing/East Lansing area and is wondering when it's popping up, I know it's going to be at Big Ten East on Friday for sure.
