I established a trade in the beginning of February, and ended up shipping on 02/11, and my trading partner shipped on 02/18. Unfortunately, FedEx damaged the box that was headed to me, and after a few weeks it was returned to my trading partner. Apparently most of the bottles were damaged.

My trading partner was sympathetic and offered to reship. I suggested that he wait as the weather in MA was pretty awful. On 03/14 my trading partner said he'd reship. On 3/19 he said he'd ship on the following Monday (3/23); On 3/26 he said he'd ship on 3/27; on 3/31 he said he'd ship on 4/1.

All the while I've been very patient and have offered to also send out another box as a nice gesture. While I'm out ~$100 from the first box it seems unfair to expect someone to ship twice without returning the favor.

I'm curious what the community thinks is the appropriate trading feedback, should he decide to stop responding/ not ship. Frankly, he fulfilled his duty of shipping at the start of his trade, and has been pleasant to deal with throughout. It's just frustrating that I was promised beer (De Garde) for a second time and nothing's been shipped. Do I leave "okay" or "bad" feedback? When has enough time passed?

The general consensus here is that when the shipper sends a box that's damaged by the freight carrier, it's totally on the shipper to replace what was lost. I believe the best practice and general custom is to even add a bit more or include nicer extras than contained in the original box. I don't think anyone would expect you to ship out another box because of this. While patience on your part should be exercised in this situation - and it seems that you have - enough shipping dates have been postponed that you should probably let the shipper know you started this thread and that you would appreciate a response from him before outing him publicly. Feedback shouldn't be left before you give him the choice to respond or not. If he responds and comes through, feeback should be good. If he doesn't respond or doesn't come through, it should be bad and not ok.

Publicly outing people seems to work pretty well....It has been long enough imo..

Delivery of items stated in the trade agreement is totally on the sender until it gets to you. You don't need to send him another box. It's up to you how patient you want to be with these missed shipping dates, but holding out in good faith might get you better results than putting a lot of pressure on him. Tactful reminding perhaps..

I disagree that publicly outing is a good idea without mentioning this thread in a private message first.

While I'm not saying this happened in this case, the reason you should make the person send a second box is this, if all the was required was a single good faith effort in sending a box someone could send a twelve pack of Bud Light without any protection, provide a tracking number and be shocked when it gets returned.

A trade isn't complete, to me, until both sides get the beer they agreed to trade.

You've been very patient. Your box should have been shipped when he said it would be unless there are good reasons for the delays. Has he given you any reasons? If so, what are they?

You didn't owe him a box, although I understand & appreciate your reasoning in thinking that you do. However, once you've offered to send another box you should do so. Unless you made very specific offers or promises of what you'd send, it only needs to be a consolation box, ie some nice beers, nothing life altering or rare.

I vote pm tio alert him to this thread if you think he's just dragging ass. IF you think he's deliberately decided to rip you off & never ship then out him. Obviously that's your judgment to make.

Never expected or asked for a second box from Tyler. Overall unfortunate that the first box broke. And I see how it looks. I made many delays but not because I was trying to blow him off. I have had a great box ready to go ever since the first date I said I would ship. Unfortunately life events are more important to me than beer trading. And if anyone wants to think less of me for that, go for it.

Life does happen, but beer trading is a luxury, not a necessity. If your life doesn't allow you to complete trades and communicate in a timely manner, it is very simple, don't trade beer. According to OP you told him 4 times you would ship and never did. Not cool.

:slight_frown: You're right, it is simple. Where do I report to receive my beer advocate lashings?

It's all good. A public shaming was never my intention. Jake has responded to me privately and has vowed to ship either today or tomorrow. Assuming that happens, I'm a happy camper.

Thanks to everyone for their input, I appreciate it.
