    I know I've seen examples on here but I couldn't find any trying to look back. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to using spreadsheets and was looking for advice on how to make a good useable, searchable spreadsheet with extra info on my bottles. My collection is starting to get alittle cluttered and it would be good to have a tactile media for how old they are and so on.
    What kinda Columns do you guys do?

    I'm using google sheet

    I also use Google Sheets and I use the following columns:
    * Brewery
    * Beer
    * Bottle date/batch number/vintage
    * Count
    * Notes

    Another helpful column for some is "Beer style", but I never bothered with that.

    It's just a normal row with the column names. You can then go to `View->Freeze->1 row` to get that column to appear as you scroll up/down. If you select a cell that has data and then go to `Data->Filter`, you can filter your sheet based on what's in the cells, though it's pretty simplistic (see also https://support.google.com/docs/answer/3540681 ; Named Filters could be somewhat useful too depending on how big your cellar is).

    I did, but frankly it's hard to remember to remove one when you drink it.

    Also, I usually have a Bottle Size column in addition to those mentioned.

    I use the following columns,

    # (count of beers) / Brewery / Beer / Style / Bottle Date / Drink By / Alcohol % / Size / Location / Theme (like Pumpkin, Fruit) / Notes (to add more of a description, etc.)

    Here's what I do. I have a running list of "active" beers that I am currently drinking. At the moment this list is 102 beers long. Yikes. Each night I drink the top beer on the list and move the next one from the closet to the fridge. For instance, tonight I have Grimm Color Field, which I put in the fridge last night. Then I will move Mikkeller George from the closet to the fridge.

    Below the list of active beers I have my cellar listed by the date they get moved to the active list.

    The colunms I have are: Brewery / Beer / Style / oz. / Glassware / Color (Dark/Light) / Category / ABV / Price / Appearance / Nose / Taste / Mouth / Overall / Avg. / Price per oz. / Rating per $ / Store.

    The Color (Dark/Light) and oz. columns are for my own personal use, as I use these columns to create a drinking order. I like to alternate between lighter (IPAs, scotch, barleywines, belgians, sours) and darker (porters, stouts), as well as format size. For instance, tonight is Color Field (sour, 22 oz.), then tomorrow is George (RIS, 11.2 oz.), followed by AleSmith Old Numbskull (barleywine, 750 ml), and then Fort George Cavatica Stout (imperial stout, 16 oz.), etc.

    And for the cellar list I have another column for date to be moved to the active list. On April 15th I'll be moving a Supplication and a PnB from the cellar to the active list.

    I also have another tab on my workbook that keeps track of the location of every beer I have. So when I want to move Supplication from the cellar to the active list I don't need to go rummaging around the cellar. It is currently against the left wall, 3rd bottle from the back on top of my Hill Farmstead box.

    I also use Google Drive and create a spreadsheet. I have the following columns, in order:
    • Brewery
    • Beer
    • Style
    • ABV
    • Volume
    • Vintage
    • Quantity
    • Trade (Yes/No)
    • Longevity
    • Notes
    I also have a formula at the top to calculate "Total Count" and "Unique Beers" in the spreadsheet.

    I started off with a beer cellar website and found it hard to keep accurate. I quickly fell off using it. Since then I created a Google Spreadsheet and think thats the way to go. I use similar columns as mentions. I find it much easier to maintain due to accessibility and ease of editing.

    wow. looking at all your guy's spreadsheets/ideas makes me realize I need to do this!! I have waaaayyy to many beers at home now and can barely keep up with what I got. JonnyBeers yours looks great, and it looks like this is the year to crack open the Vancouver Island brew, HA!

    srgehl what's that code column on yours?

    It's my super secret code to tell me how much I paid for the beer. When I trade I perfer $4$. So it's helpful to know. As for why I use the super secret code... Because if my girlfriend found out how much I spend on beer I wouldn't be allowed to talk to you guys anymore :wink:

    Yes, that's so great!! I need a super secret code too but I guess the wife could probably just check my/our bank account too. HA! My spousal unit is going to either kill or divorce me sometime soon because of my excessive beer spending. I mean tonight I'm somehow going to tell her to let me buy a $33 750ml bottle of a Deal with the Devil which I've never tried...

    Forgot to mention what makes it even worse is, she HATES the taste of any beer she's tried. And believe me I'm always having her sip any really tasty ones I'm drinking, so far exposure has not been my friend.

    Actually that's a good point, having the value in there. Does anyone have insurance on their cellar? I'm a little too afraid to know what mine is worth.

    I just had to "sell" all of my chametz for Passover, and on the selling form, I needed to list the value of all grain-based products. The stuff in the fridge is probably worth a couple hundred, but all of the beer is worth at least $3,000.

    Yep, I use an Excel spreadsheet. I track when I get stuff, where I get it, how much it costs, and how many I have. It's a great to way to make sure the cellar doesn't fill up too much...although it still seems to be a problem. I should think about insurance.

    i start them but then never keep up with them. with so many beers coming and going so often its just hard to keep up. someone should develop an app that you can scan a beer into your cellar and all the info is uploaded hahaha
