Pipeworks is doing well for themselves, and getting better with each batch, but they're just locals; expect something similar in return.

As others have said, just get the word out. The few of theirs I've had so far have been excellent. Start including a bottle or two as extras. That's what I do with my favorite local start ups to get the word out.

Nowadays you can only trade beer that has hype. Nobody wants to trade for locals no more even if they are better than some hyped up releases. So sad.

I agree! I was less excited for that one for some reason, but I bought it anyways because I've tried every one. It turned out to be one of my favorites I've had from them!

I love doing locals for locals. I want to be able to trade for awesome stuff on the regular. Big/limited/rare releases are great, but i don't want to have to go hunting for that choice bottle just to get another choice bottle. I agree with whoever above wrote about throwing in as extras. Give it some time and let those people share it with their friends and pretty soon the buzz will be about. Everything ive had from pipeworks so far has been awesome. Gunna crack my Blood of the Unicorn this weekend. People hoard KBS and BBPt5, but i say stick with the Pipeworks. More beer for the money and awesome at that. BTW, did a side by side a while back and i liked the regular Pt5 better than the BB version.

I tried one of their beers (Close Encounter) and it was solid. I wouldn't be opposed to trading for more in the future but I wouldn't give up the caliber of beers you are seeking for other Pipeworks beers.

Yes your offer is way off. I'm sure they make good beer, but you are aiming way too high. Pipeworks doesn't currently have any beers with serious trade value right now, but you are asking for beers that have proven trade value and routinely trade for similarly hyped/limited releases. Pipeworks is a local and will trade for locals that you have not had.

It could be a long time before Pipeworks reaches that level, or they may never get there. Lots of people would love their local stock to pull in limited releases, but the majority of them never will. Trade value does not affect whether or not a beer is a good beer.

I'm going to start throwing in Pipeworks as my extras in out of distro trades. If all Chicago traders do that, international fame awaits.

(The only problem is I always end up drinking them before I can ship them out to others. Whoops)

If Pipeworks is indeed as good as Capone's goons are saying, I am sure we'll see more demand

Their highest rated beer is 4.15. And considering their limited distribution, they're probably enjoying some homer inflation.

I know that some will think that's a crappy way to basically "dismiss" an entire brewery, but I just don't see how anyone can expect to land world-class, limited, bourbon barrel aged beers with a box from a brewery that peaks out at 4.15 rAvg.

Not saying that Pipeworks beers should trade 1:1 with any of the stuff mentioned above, but had to respond to your homer inflation comment. NickD did a study a while back that showed that Midwest reviewers were actually harder on their locals than the general community. Apparently beer has to be rare and shipped cross-country to be enjoyable in Chicago.

These guys are up-and-coming, certainly, but not hyped enough to get that kind of trade value out of the gate. Just enjoy the frequent new releases (which have been solid to great, IMO) and extra/local them in trades.

Yea, I hear ya there. I sent a Hyper Dog as an extra and that was only b/c it's so hot I drank the IPAs etc. and HyperDog was the one that survived the bottle opening. Had two NvU's myself that night :astonished: It was great.

Not everyone can be a BOSS and offer up a case of KH lol But yes, sadly i see this happening and i'm afraid unless Pipeworks comes out with a world-class fruit beer (cough cough New Glarus) they are going to be an awesome diamond in the rough that nobody sees.
