I just dont understand why people care. It is not saying that it is the best beer in the world. All the top 250 list is a list based on average rating and number of ratings. Just because "overall" people think Heady is the "best beer" does not mean you have to agree.

It could be possible also that over all a majority a people think its a great beer. That is all the 250 list is. A list of beers that a majority of raters agree is really good. Thats all.

Totally agree. This is why it has averaged out to be the "best" beer. It is very approachable.

The list, like all lists, are just snapshots of what's popular. They'll all be different lists in 6 months.

I will not grief you over the "too much time", but will insert a standard "NERD!" response.

When a beer as good as Heady is as readily available. My guess is what makes heady number 1 isn't that it's the "best" but significantly more easily attained than the "better" beers.

Also. Why do beer drinkers give a fuck what beer is number 1 on BA? Never understood that.

I almost think in the new age of beer making, it may be time for Beer Advocate ratings to split into 2 catagories and have it somehow based on quantity of beer production/distribution footprint. Large distribution/large volume beer sales over xxx units of the beer itself have their own ratings / rankings and the limited batch, small distribution, small volume sales go into their own section.

That way people from around the US and/or planet, can see the rank order of the highest rated beers they actually can acquire somewhat easily and which ones you need to mule out of state/out of country for, stand in long lines, have a store owner insider connection or chase trucks to acquire. And of course still keep the weighted # of minimum rankings into the equations/formulas as well.

While I feel the same way you do about Heady, it's a very well crafted beer. Minus the appearance, everything is in place as it should be and I can see why people go nuts over it. I think people forget that this is all subjective. Some people feel that the more cirtus / tropical fruit in said IPA = better IPA. Some need an explosion of hops and high bitterness for it to = better IPA.

Some need a perfect balance of both to = better IPA. Some prefer Pine Bombs...

When people say XYZ beer has "surpassed" Heady or Pliny, I tend to disagree. More intense flavors are coming out of new hop varietals which may lead people to believe that, but Pliny & Heady are two almost flawleess beers for the ingredients used IMHO.

I echo this. Swish is every bit as good as Heady in my opinion. I'd say Foundation Epiphany is at least close as well.

How are you guys getting Swish? I thought it was only available in Maine and not distributed outside the state?

Excuse me, but in 2015 quantitative rankings of subjective criteria done by non-experts that are later analyzed by arbitrary methods and then put into a list is fact.
