I'm at the gift shop today in Petaluma and written on the fridge is the bottle on dates for every rack holding each beer. (Sucks, Shutdown, Hairy Eyeball, Nightime etc...)

Playing dumb, I ask the clerk behind the counter what the dates mean. As expected, the reply goes, "Those are the dates the beers were bottled on and we always have the freshest here."

Since Sucks & Undercover Investigation Shutdown both are marked 3/31/15 I buy one 6-pack of each. After I get home, the Julian code on the neck for Sucks is 075 (3/16/15) & Shutdown is marked 065 (3/06/15)

I'm not complaining for the record. These are straight from the beautiful source and considerably fresh. But based on principal I found it a bit lame and misleading. I figure it's not their fault, it's all the shrubbery that gets passed around there (cousin to hops) that's effecting their ability to perform simple math.

    Anyone else experience this?

Probably just read the wrong dates. They are in the ballpark on the dates.

Or, maybe, perhaps, a capitalist is lying to their customers in hopes of improved profit? Unlikely, but a possibility. The dates on the bottle, after all, are put there by humans.

Like a over-hopped Strong Ale should ...... DELICIOUS!!!

The Sucks is fucking awesome. I've had tons of this beer fresh. It's almost as if it's been cleaned up some. Dialed in better than years past.

That's some fresh shit - I wouldn't pay it no mind - and math is mostly guesswork anyway, right? lol

So no need to pass those beers onto the Knights that Say Ni? Since the beers taste so good?

I think you have a very genuine gripe. That is false advertising (why would they print that bottling info unless they know it affects sales? Unless they got tired of pointing out freshness dates to customers seeing as you practically need a flash light to find the dating info on most lagunitas products) and this is the corporate source so if anyone has their crap together it should be them. Now whether or not it was intentionally false is entirely different matter and there really isn't a way to find that answer unless this is a constant pattern with them. Might have been a 4 thirty mistake, but thats not a real excuse now is it? Glad your enjoying the beer. Hope this wasnt an instance of intentional deceit. Be interesting to see what they would've said had you noticed and pointed out the dating discrepancy in store.

    ...Cheers from the other coast!

What's the point of putting the date if it's not correct? Because the dates are close enough it doesn't matter, but annoying.

Hey, if they're gonna sue another company for creating a beer label that slightly resembles their own, they better scrutinize their dating system and the dates on beers in the same way.

So I guess it's for real that Sucks is being put into six packs again? I'm glad to hear that it wasn't just an internet rumor.

You know something they don't know.

I'm guessing they dont quite think consumers know what julian dating is.
    -------------

Frickin Ballast Point has their grapefruit Sculpin Julian Dating with white letters on a white backdrop. Unless you really know where to look, it's a damn challenge.

Why give these folks your money?

Sucks sixers just hit my area.. Bottle dated Mid February. They started back out again mid March to CA, so I guess a month out from them to me makes sense. But by the time it makes it everywhere, 2-3 months plus? It's just sorta sad. It'll hit their local channels within 3 weeks, but by the time other states get it, its at least 6-8 weeks old? If they are lying to local consumers, I can't imagine what other Lagunitas sales reps try. Store owners, get to knowing what your'e buying..

At least it's affordable. Those 32 ozer.s were a real drag. For $9/sixer though, I would buy 3 month old sucks w/o question. And it just looks like I may.

Brewery distr/ turnaround is sad. Time to find those that still self distribute.

Simple math? I would bet most people don't even know what a Julian Date is and really who gives a shit besides some nerd with nothing better to do than quiz and look down upon some lowly bottle shop employee.
