With the growth of "session" IPAs I am seeing more and more come out in bomber format. Doesn't a session ipa in bomber format kinda defeat the purpose of a "session" beer? I guess you could session a few bombers and it would only cost you as much as a 12er.

Yes, it does defeat the purpose of a session IPA. Personally, if I am going to drink session IPAs then I plan on having quite a few, I plan on picking up a six-pack. I can't see myself buying and drinking a session IPA in a bomber format.

I made this gripe a few years back when Drake's offered their Alpha Session in bombers only. Completely defeats the purpose, while a rip-off IMHO to boot...

Yeah I think it's counterintuitive. Cans are the way to go.

Maybe if the bombers were in the $2-4 range I'd go for it, but we all know that's not going to happen

That beer is a prime example. It's so good and drinkable I want more. I give kern a pass because they only bottle bombers, but the breweries that have the ability to bottle 12 and 22oz bottles but they choose to bottle their low abvs beers in bombers......

Lol. Wow, that is kind of pathetic. If I'm going to buy a session IPA, it's to drink as much as possible. Session IPAs I'd buy by the case.

I think "session" IPA as defined in the US should be available in plastic bottles. Then again I don't care for them because for the same price I can have a full flavored IPA. Put them in cheap containers and sell them for less than a buck a bottle. But even then I don't know..

I like sharing bombers, so i guess it's a more sociable sessionable...

The size makes more sense. The pricing kills it.

Yeah, unless the bomber is going to be less than $4 (it's not), this seems like a bad idea. Plus, I think of session beers as ones you take places to drink rather than sit at home and sip them. Who want's to lug 3 bombers of a session IPA to a BBQ when they could bring a 6 pack instead?

That's a great point. I usually drink low abvs beers when I am golfing, or out in about and I have to drive home. I often don't have any glassware either. Who wants to lug around multiple bombers and drink straight from them.

I wouldn't mind drinking a Rudie in one of those huge Mission-style cans.
