Just cracked what I believe is a fresh Loose Cannon (no longer with the best by notches on the bottom of the label plus store just got it in) and there is no hop aroma to speak of with a biscuit aroma. Taste follows with only a slight grassy bitterness. I know they have had problems keeping up with production. Just poured a second one and their is a definite problem. Not sure if they rushed this batch of Loose Cannon or if they poured the wrong beer into Loose Cannon bottles.

Haha gotta expect the immediate asshole comment... I've had Loose Cannon a few times. Never thought it was special, it is a solid IPA though. Probably just an off batch.

Not meant as an assholish comment. I've received one as part of a trade and thought it was A-OK.

My bad.. So much trolling and snobbery on here nowadays. It's hard to tell when people are being serious.

Heavy Seas doesn't distribute to Mizzou? Kinda surprised, I figured they were all over the place.

Nope, not here. And I agree about the snobbery but that ain't me! I'm just here for a good time!

    Cheers!

Just because the store just got it doesn't mean it's fresh, I've received cases from distributors that were out of date when they were delivered.

Yeah, here in MD the last 2 times my shop actually got it in(they tell us its been out of stock for 3 weeks...) it was already 3 weeks old.

And to your point, almost everything we get from Cali is already a month, sometimes 2 months old. I'd love to enjoy some Stone beers...

No it was fresh. Rhode Island had been out of stock for a few weeks and just got a shipment in the last two weeks. Unless it was pulled from another market. It tasted like 6 month old Loose Cannon, that's how muted the hops where.

Well if it tasted like 6 month old, perhaps it was pulled from another market where it wasn't selling so well.

Contact Clipper City, seriously. I had a old/bad case of Small Craft Warning and they sent a fresh case to my local distributor for me to pick up.

You just gotta love it when breweries truly want beer consumers to obtain quality product.

    Cheers to Clipper City!

It's been hit or miss with me on the Cannon and I don't remember ever getting much aroma from it.

read the side of the bottle and is seems to be brewed in Utica now. So I guess Saranac is doing some contract brewing for them. I guess that would explain the bad batch.

A decent brew for sure, if you drink it often , and if it's off you'll know. I'd bring it back to the retailer, a good retailer will stand behind his stuff.

Looks like it's the case, contract-brewed at F.X. Matt-

Blaming a contract brewery for a "bad batch" always rubs me the wrong way. The label says "Clipper City Brewing Co." and that's where the buck should stop. If the owner of that company approves of the beer and allows it to be sold, it's their responsibility.

Also, Matt typically dates their beers directly on the glass at the neck - any discussion of an "off" beer should include the bottling or "best by" date code.

Yes, needs more bitterness to be drinkable. Love the flavor, but by the middle of the pint the lack of balance gets annoying to me.

not saying anything bad against fx matt just saying sometimes it is tough to get the beer to taste the same at a different brewery.
