I was at FFF the other day and, having enjoyed the Saisons I've had before, Rabbid Rabbit caught my eye and I ordered a tulip of it. What I got was pretty far from my expectations: instead of a light, crisp brew with a subtle spiciness, I got something hugely sweet, tart, and robust while still having a spice to it.

Obviously, FFF likes to wander from categorize-able styles, but what are some saisons that have a pronounced sourness to them like Rabbid Rabbit? I'm not the most experienced beer drinker, so excuse my ignorance if what I'm describing is a fairly common style, but besides a Wild Ale and a Quad, I'm not sure what comes close to this.

Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Perhaps I can score it in a trade. Thanks!

Casey Brewing and Blending Saison. You're not gonna find it in Indiana, but trust me on this one, trade for it and you won't be disappointed. Sour flavors in a saison done to perfection.

Totally agree.. OP, if you are looking for sour saisons, seek out anything HF puts out. Their Arthur, Brother Soigne, Convivial Suarez, Clara or anything else similar is just incredible! I'm personally getting a case of it next week.. my go-to summer stash.

Also, the HF saisons tend to be more limey/lemony/herbaly rather than fruity/tarty... if you're looking for that.

Not quite, but it regardless sounds different and tasty! All awesome suggestions here, not to mention the potential for some fun beer quests.

Being in Indiana, I would recommend picking up some of the Jolly Pumpkin Saisons, the IO saison is one of my favorites.

Good HF substitutes are the Grassroots offerings (HF/Anchorage collabs) and those are on the shelves. If you are near Indianapolis, let me know, i can BM you some locations.

The Casey stuff would require a trade, but it's still easier to get than HF for most people. It's up there quality-wise, too.
Trinity would also be worth seeking out, too. Crooked Stave has some, although I'm not sure what the current availability would be.

^^ This - Crooked Stave makes some excellent year round options. Surette Provision Saison is pretty easy to get and Vielle is a nice light option. Both slightly sour and beautifully done.

SARA Bernice edges out Casey Saison, Arthur, and Side Project saisons in my book, but all are fantastic. A great international example is BFM Square Root 225 Sour Saison.

Unfortunately here in the midwest (aside from Jolly Pumpkin) most saisons are way different than the Jester King, Hill Farmstead, Crooked Stave, etc saisons. Definitely miss that light tartness. Most breweries here do ones that are just earthy/peppery, sweet, or hop dominated.

I think Transient might be doing some good saisons though.

Hill Farmstead Arthur is my favorite beer on earth, and fits the bill. As others have mentioned, many HF saisons would.

    But of course, availability.

I've always thought Goose Island Sofie had some nice tart qualities without overwhelming sourness. I love Jolly Pumpkin stuff too. If you can find Blaugies saisons from Belgium, those are great.

And +1 to BFM Square Root

Tired Hands. HandFarm, or anything from the Emptiness series. If you're in the area, any non-barrel aged sour saison they put on tap is likely to be out-of-this-world good as well. Far more complex than Arthur, Vera Mae, Anna, etc.

Prairie makes some good sour saisons. Not sure if you can find them in your state, but Prairie Ale, Prairie Gold, Prairie Puncheon, and Prairie Somewhere are all sour saisons.
