Differing opinions, but awesome to know there's another classical fan and performer.

We can all agree to disagree. But a pleasure to know there are "Classical Music" appreciators on NBS.

    Three Floyd's Jinx-Proof. Bottled on 3/12/15.

Beautiful clear golden straw color with a thick white head and sparse bubbles rising slowly to the surface. Leaves behind thick rings of lacing.

A malt-forward aroma, with no hops to speak of, but a little white pepper in the background.

Clean-tasting, again with the sweet malt flavor most pronounced, while still fairly crisp, and a little spiciness on the back end.

Can't say I've had a ton of exports to compare it to, but this is a solid lager. Great beer for a spring day.

    Good afternoon NBSers!

After spending a good deal of time moving a friend yesterday, today is made for watching sports and drinking beer. My entry today is void of classical music, I hope you'll forgive me

Feral One is incredibly mouth puckering yet mouth watering at the same time. It's like Sour Patch Kids to me. I don't think I could pick out the single beers they blended to make this but that doesn't deter me from getting to the bottom of it. For all their barrel aged dark beers, FW knows their way around Wild Ales as well.

    Cheers to you all!

First off, great to see ya startin' us off with this weeks NBS @Roguer !!
Secondly, here's my entry for today
    Neshaminy Creek Tribute Tripel
This is not the greatest Tripel in the world, this is just a tribute.
A lil photobomb from my youngest, and look at that deck! Freshly cleaned and stained!!
Any way, I wasn't overly impressed with this offering from NC, unfortunately.
It looks really dark orange, almost looks like a killer DIPA! That's throwing me off a little.
I ain't picking up a whole lot in the nose either, although that may be from my allergies.
Tastes really good! Get a lot from the orange peel and coriander, there's a lingering bitterness on the tip of my tongue too.
Not a lot of carbonation that I usually expect from a Belgian. Still a decently easy drinking beer.
Overall, like I said I wasn't impressed, perhaps because I expected something different. Thanks to @jzeilinger for giving me this bad boy! Hope yer still digging yer early birthday present!!

And of course this post wouldn't be complete without The D!!

    Cheers Big Ears!

    Cross-posting with WBAYDN#911 again.

Good afternoon all. I am making my first foray into NBS territory today. I enjoy reading everyone's reviews, stories and general musings here and was keen to contribute.

Beautiful spring weather here in Chicago. Had a short walk, cooked a great breakfast involving bacon and avocadoes and got a beef stew on the stove for later. I thought to crack this open to savor a chilled out Sunday - which might be the last low key one I have for a while! As soon as the weather improves it seems like weekends without plans being made are few and far between. Blackhawks playoff hockey is coming up too, which seems like more reason to get an exciting new beer opened up.

So onto Lagunitas High-Westified Imperial Coffee Stout....

I have been waiting to dive into this one for a few weeks now. Here are my notes:

Pours a beautiful jet black with ruby tinting and a thick tan head. The aroma and nose is all chocolate with drip coffee notes. Some dried fruit comes across here on the palate, with a hint of sweetness and bitterness balanced from the chocolate flavors melding together. Fantastic! Love the thick yet not overly viscous body here, the balance is extremely well done.

Good warmth from the rye/bourbon side but this does not overwhelm at any point. Aftertaste is a lingering chocolate feel - has an almost tiramisu/dessert feel to it. This is a tremendous coffee stout.

Greetings All. Happy NBS!!! Sunny (and smoky due to a local fire) breezy here in SoCal. Taking in a local gardening event at our beloved Cal State Fullerton Arboretum. Yes college baseball fans THAT Cal State Fullerton. Great day here. Wonderful people who focus on preserving and/or bringing beauty to this world. Great event called the Green Scene. If been going zinc I was a wee one many moons ago.
Oh look. A beer booth. That's new. IPA? "Yes, please!"
It's from local Anaheim Brewery. Comes off like a hoppy, yeasty hef. Meh.
Well. At least there's a lot of great plants. Hopefully I'll redeem the beer see later.
    Cheers All.

    New Belgium Portage Porter

This is a new beer from New Belgium, released this year I think. Best before date is 6-14-15, this must be one of the first batches they're ever made of this beer.

    Poured into a shaker.

Appearance - very dark, almost jet black with a nice red hue at the bottom when I held it up to the light. 1 finger mocha looking head.

Aroma - So sweet and roasty at the same time. Very coco powder like sweetness backed up by the black malts.

Taste - One of the smoothest tasting porters I've had in a quite some time. It is very drinkable even with the creamy mouth feel and roasted qualities found in this beer. Up front I was getting this nice chocolate and spicy hops bursting onto the tongue followed by a really interesting smokey roasted coffee taste on the back end. As the beer warms up, the chocolate taste plays a bigger role in the tasting profile but still get that nice roasted aftertaste.

Verdict - Great beer, very flavorful and extremely drinkable. I would take this over a session
IPA any day of the week and twice on Sunday. LOL! I could sit down and drink 2 or 3 of these with no problems. However, I did recently try New Belgium Abbey and I must admit, I like Abbey more than this. Both are great beers though.

    Score - 8.5 out of 10.

Ah, a good Sabbath to you, priests of pilsner and abbots of APAs. Greetings also to you, cardinals of kölsch and reverends of roggenbier. As the good beerpostle that I am, I greet you all in the name of peace, love, and zythology. It’s a pleasing (to me) 62 in NWNJ. After an engaging church sermon, lunch with newly-made congregant friends, and grocery shopping, it’s time for an epistle reserved for the parish of BA’s NBS.

Still awaiting my Cicerone test results, thank you for asking.

Up for examination? Abbaye De Saint Bon-Chien (Zymatore) - Moscatel Barrel - BFM (Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes). I turned blue trying to say that all in one breath. Style? Bière de garde. To me, a much loved but hard-to-appreciate style. This style grew on me, over time, sort of like the aroma of good renditions of the style.

Poured: Into a Libbey tulip, because I’ve yet to get one with a brewery logo on it.

Sight: Medium amber, reminiscent of freshly brewed Lipton’s tea in a glass jug outside in the sun. A cream-white head sits low and tight on top, but recedes quickly.

Aroma: Bright and tangy. A little musty or what someone might call “damp cellar.” A hint of spicy something. Not much malt or hops in the nose. My wife gave it a sniff and called the high alcohol content.

Taste: Wow. Tangy, tangy, and more tangy. The classic bière de garde taste. I think I also get the grape-y-ness. It spent a year in Moscatel barrel. Maybe it finishes like brut champagne? Drier than the Namib Desert. I also get a tartness… is that the same as tangy? Despite the barrel time, I don’t get a whole lot of wood.

Feel: Light, or maybe Medium minus. Tiny, tiny bubbles and wonderful carbonation. Combine that with the folded-steel full tang flavor, and it’s very refreshing. The finish is on the top of your mouth.

Overall: Great bière de garde. Cool find in an independent bottle shop in Nanuet, NY. This might be an interesting “crossover” for a wine drinker. Sort of like 61 Minute from DFH, but much more going on. Revelation/side note- I prefer to drink these on the cooler side of what’s suggested, sort of like the heretics that like red wine chilled. [gasp]

Most of the time, you guys know I try to pair my beer with my music. Today, I think I’ll stray from my routine, and simply post a song near and dear to my heart. I owe loose inspiration to @Greywulfken:

Dorée - Bières de Chimay S.A.

Bières de Chimay S.A. - Dorée
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

    -------------------------

What's this? A new Chimay?! I am gonna be all over that. Poured from the bottle into a Chimay chalice.

Soft topped bone white, slow decant and angled pour gives not much head, but manages to keep it's very soupy puck on top at a simple finger. Very fine head bubbles almost nitrous looking too. Body color appears unfiltered, but has a simple glow of lemon to orange as the tapering gets close to the top. Fine carbonation continues up to the top to keep the head repopulated. Solid looker.

What a great aroma. Full of fruit and wonderful sweetness and spice. Allspice to clove like sweetness, not even dry or hot. Sweet bready notes of honey, maybe a touch of vanilla, oranges and even some mild lemon fruit zesty quality. Has a wonderful angel food cake like smell to it, perhaps a hint of strawberry peaking out of this as well. Great stuff.

Palate though is much more subdued it seems. Lots of mineral and Perrier like carbonated water flavors that really cut through. Hints of mild honey and the carbonation gives to some dioxide and pepper rush on the finish. Gaseous palate. Not much depth for this either even for a lighter patersbier/wit/Belgian Pale ale whatever you want to direct the style notes towards. Interestingly the fruit forward aroma and flavor seems to only exist in the aftertaste, in airy gulps and breaths after the swallow.

It's just way too carbonated and without much malt depth unfortunately. Happy to have tried it, but even for a lighter Belgian this isn't giving me that much joy. Perhaps I expected too much, but no big complaints that's for sure.

    look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5 | BA Score: 3.77

I've not heard much from this album. But, their "double" album was quite good, as was the album before this- Sworn to the Great Divide. However, nothing tops Stabbing the Drama and earlier.

Gaffel Kolsch, I've enjoyed this beer bottled in the past but this is a different animal. On tap this beer is outstanding one of the best beers I have ever drank. This bar must have a very fresh keg because this beer tastes brew pub fresh. Going to end up having 3 pints.

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @Roguer for stepping into the breech and kicking things off,

A very nice looking day in the Marmot City, quite sunny and about 60 degrees. It may get over 70 before things are through. Knowing it was probably going to be such a day, I had hoped to do some morning hiking in the Dishman Hills, but I tweaked my back yesterday and suffered through a somewhat sleepless night because of it, and so contented myself with a slow start to the day.

Last Monday I had a number of new beers at a local brewpub on Spokane’s North Side:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/37297/
Nice selection of styles, great service and a gloriously greasy cheeseburger-Reuben hybrid (I’d had it before at the Pub on the South Hill run by the same folks), but most of the beers were kinda “meh.” Some of that was down to me – I think I’m not a fan of the Comet hop, so I wasn’t blown away by the Hop Comet single hop IPA for that reason – but I didn’t have anything that would make me want to return if I wasn’t already passing through that part of town.

Today I’m starting off with a Dunkel Lager sent me by the Bellingham (porch)Bomber himself, our very own @beertunes:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18879/60139/?ba=woemad
I could drink this all day, and will pester the owners of my favorite local bars to give me the chance to do so.

Might be back later, might not, and if the latter, have a great rest of the weekend!

Awesomeness in all posts...banter/bravado/brevity/braggarts....and beer beauty

Beauty in Nor Cal today. Warm, low 80's, sunshine bearing down....pollen flying and Spring in full force

This one was a pleasant surprise. Not a fan of Chai in any form...but BA posts intrigued me and I do enjoy a RIS or five every now and now.

chai is not overpowering, beautiful balance all around, less viscosity than desired, very pleasant over and through the tongue, definitely different...but tasty good

as are these...(from Russia...for some weak ass thematic linkage...but sweetly powerful soundtrack)

Beers and Cheers BA's on a fantastic NBS
