Sipping on some Mad River Extra Stout. It seems like brewery doesn't get enough love around here.

This, for instance, was a fantastic, affordable, nearly sessionable stout. What's more to love?

    Cheers!

cracked open Homebrewed rye IPA to start. Damn good, but carb isnt up to snuff yet(expected as I bottled it last monday night). Damn good, a lot of grapefruit and orange zest/rind(amarillo/cascade hoppng late boil). Distinctive spiciness but just enough to not be overbearing or throw off the hop profile. very happy with this one, Need to brew again next Saturday for sure!

I submitted 3 styles to the Michigan Beer Cup this afternoon at the drop off point. I am looking forward to seeing my grades. My first brew competition.

Finished my Devil Dancer. Another success from Founders. Extremely malty but supremely delicious and hoppy too. The price is the only thing that holds this ale back. At $5 a bottle, I'll enjoy a couple when it comes around every year but that's it.

Spent the afternoon pre-judging for our homebrew club's upcoming competition. Then to our monthly meeting where several trading and traveling club members broke out some incredible first-timers for me: Alaskan Barleywine, Arctic Panzer Wolf, Duck Rabbit Hoppy Bunny, and the best beer I've had in years, Firestone Walker Parabola (2012). A few others I can't remember. Thanks to all who shared!

Moved onto Firestone Walker's - Wookey Jack - at first was a bit awkward with the roastiness and rye and IPA hopping, but as I drank it more I found myself really digging on it. Not quite Rye'd da Lightning, but a tasty beer that I judged harshly in my first few sips. What a wild combo, surprised it works.

    Cheers!

sticking with the Belgian theme. The smell is absolutely amazing. Westmalle should make a trappist dubbel febreze spray so I can make my house smell like this all the time.
