Visiting Europe, which is amazing! Finding awesome sights and eating amazing food are easy! Finding good craft beer, however, has not followed suit. Don't wanna sound like I'm complaining, just curious if anyone has any experience dealing with this sort of issue. How does everyone else cope when they can't find their favorite styles of beer?

Enjoy new styles? I am curious what areas of Europe you are having a hard time finding good beer in?

Weird, I've found some amazing beer in nearly every European city I've visited.

As am I. Is this more of a "How to cope without hoppy beer" thread?

Don't find what beer you like? Drink wine. A great wine will blow you away.

Just drink whatever style is brewed in that region. In Germany, you won't find alot of variety but you will always find a good, fresh pils, Weissbier, or dunkel whereever you are.

As others mentioned, if not good beer is available, get wine!

The variety in Germany is surprising, especially depending on where you are. Germany is by no means a monolithic beer entity. Just look around, do some research, and I'm damned if I ever had a problem finding great beer all over Germany. France has decent beer around, but drink the wine for God's sake. Beer in England is wonderful and Scandinavia is pretty damned good. A west coast style ipa you will not find.

Not having craft beer available to myself would most certainly drive me to drink.

I agree...if you are actively seeking a variety in Germany it can be done. However, if you just want to be casual and get a beer wherever you are eating lunch or dinner, you will typically be limited to whatever 2 or 3 styles are popular in that region. So yes, with extra effort you can find variety but I personally don't want to waste valuable sight-seeing time seeking beer.

I would be ok with drinking the local beers ,even if they are not really craft. I would also drink wine or liquor if the beers were totally bad. Most vacations are for 1 or 2 weeks tops, so it's all good, enjoy what you can or forgo beer if you must.

I was in a small town outside Avignon for 4 days. Once I made it to Valencia I found a great place called Birra and Blues. And had no trouble finding things in Paris, where I spent the last leg of my trip. Took Beerbellies advice and drank wine when I couldn't find any good beer. My advice to anyone else with this problem is to ask the bar tenders where to find what you're looking for. Or just use The Google, hopefully you find WiFi, if you want to sacrifice some of your limited international data, which is extremely overpriced at your local Verizon. Cheers!

I'm not sure where you're traveling to, but there's a lot of really good beer on that continent...wine too, and whisky, vodka and absinthe, depending on where you are

Where are you going? We have many European travelers here(myself included) who could potentially help you find amazing beer in Europe. I should think you would be excited, not disappointed?

Um, never had problems finding good beer, great beer in Europe, well except in Italy, good wine, beer, meh. Unless you are so into 1 style of beer that nothing else can compare, but I don't know what that could be. I can find Hoppy Beers, malts, darks, easy drinking... I don't get the comment, it needs to be further explained.
