Another way to look at it is, Stone brews an amazing beer called Ruination that gets over 10,000 reviews with a score of 96 because they were willing to innovate and take chances on creating a Double IPA at a time when the concept was new.

Now after a great run, rather than sit back and collect profits on old successes, they choose to continue to take chances by creating something new and continuing to innovate.

Just bought a sixer online at BevMo for pickup this afternoon. $13.99. Cheaper per oz than what they were selling the 4-packs for ($11.99). I'm sure Total Wine will be cheaper, but they didn't have it in stock yet. And none of my local mom and pop shops have posted it.

Well, they're still advertising 100+ IBUs, so I am hoping the bitterness hasn't fallen off too much. After all, it was named Ruination for a reason. I could really use a break from overly dank, low bitterness IPAs. I miss the enamel peeling West Coast IPAs that got me way into the San Diego craft scene.

They're trickling in under Ruination 2.0 and I posted a brief review there.

In short, I got a significantly more floral nose, thought it was fruitier up front but that classic Ruination bitter is there strong on the finish. The increase in alcohol, I think, made it a touch sweeter but in no way to its detriment. I found the head retention solid, but slightly less than original Ruination - appearance doesn't suffer for it.

I'm a big fan. Grabbed a 6 yesterday, will probably grab another for the weekend. Between Arrogant Bastard and Ruination Stone is the brewery that brought me to craft beer a little over 10 years ago so I'm a bit biased admittedly. But I loved Ruination and I'm happy with the update.

Oh and it's in 6 packs here where I could only ever get Ruination in bombers so + right there!

Picked up the last one at the local bottle shop today ($7)...very much looking forward to trying this one, but wish I could do a side-by-side comparison.

Total Wine has it for $11.99 a six pack in So Cal.

Great price that will keep me coming back to it often, unlike the 4 packs.

So bought a 6er today. $12.50, which is awesome since I was paying 8-9 for a bomber of the original. I gotta say from first impressions I think I'm gunna love this beer. I would describe it as enjoy-by with a dash of citrus. I'll probably do a review after a bottle or two but damn, half a bottle in and I'm really happy.

Wow. I wonder if the are using cheaper/fewer ingredients than they did in 1.0.

My exact feelings. I'm personally getting sick of these overly tropical IPAs and miss the super bitter West Coast style IPAs that got me into them in the first place years ago.

For anyone who has had it - would you describe it as "weedy" or oniony at all? Any comparisons to Enjoy By?

Right now a lot of west coast IPA's (including Enjoy By) feature those flavors and I don't care for them.

Doubt it, higher abv. and I would presume a larger dry hop addition.

They simply could get away with charging $10 for a 4 pack a few years ago. With Sucks, Rampant, & Rebel Rouser, we're trending towards more DIPA's in 6 packs from the larger craft brewers.

Really looking forward to this and Barrel Age Arrogant sounds amazingly awesome. Never got to try it, because NH didn't get the 4 box set.

Yes, I agree these flavors exist in certain offerings...and certainly they are both that can really be good or really be horrid...

I don't want to reply with my thoughts on 2.0 vs. 4/20 because I didn't get "onion" from either. I can think of plenty of beers that have that "weed" thing going, some it's like it's all you can smell. But can someone suggest a beer that has this "onion" flavor in the profile? It might sound weird but I'd like to try one to see if it's something I've tasted and never thought of that way or something I'm missing etc. Where's one where it exists and it's really good, or one where it's really horrid?

Had a bomber of this last night. The first time I ever had the original was two days prior, but I thought the update made it taste like every other new-wave West Coast style DIPA. I guess that's great for people who don't have access to those (I'm thinking of stuff by Noble etc), but to me, it just seems less distinctive—it doesn't do much to stand out from the rest of the tastes-like-a-goddamn-smoothie crowd.
