I just purchased a mystery 6 pack, which is packaged in a brown bag.

It reads: "This mystery pack contains six different beers from some of the greatest craft breweries in the World. Enjoy something new tonight!

    Cost was $11.00
I'll let you know what was inside mine when I open it.

Question: What was your best random 6 pack? Or your best find within that 6?

I'm dying to know what was in yours. I've never seen anything like that around here.

Sorry, don't have a best because I've never bought one. The only time I've ever seen a "random six-pack" was when it was made up by the store from out-of-code (or almost there) beers they wanted to move rather than return to the distributor. And even then I was traveling outside of PA since most places here could not (by law) or would not do it.

I got a Bink Blonde in a mystery 6pack once. It was fresh and delicious.

My local store has the brown bag mystery 6 pack but I have never done it. They have 6 of the same beer though, not a mixed bag. Let us know what you got.

The only thing I could equate to this is a new grocery store opening up with a mix-six pack section for 9.99. They had some gems like Alpha King, Great Lakes Eerie Monster IIPA and a few others you wouldn't normally find there. After two weeks they finally caught on and switched them all out for the usual shelf beers.

11.00 seems like a lot to not know what I'm getting. Sounds tempting though.

I wish some of my local packies offered mystery sixers (assuming they weren't just designed to ditch out-of-code brew).

It might save me from standing there in front of a cooler for twenty minutes trying to make up my mind.

You should get someone else to open and pour them for you, so you never end up knowing what they were.

UPDATE: Hey everyone, the dates were all fine. The store is unique and allows you to take any 6 pack, 12 pack, ect and create your own 6 pack. The best part is, they charged each bottle accordingly, meaning if a 6 pack was $12 the single would be $2. The oldest date in my mystery pack was March 17th I believe, pretty good. I asked how they choose the beers and they said their beer manager chooses each week based off the singles left in the random 6 packs in the cooler.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - Bottle
    Notch Session Pils - Can
    Smutty Nose Hayseed - Bottle
    Troegs Sunshine Pils - Bottle
Down the Road Brewery 'Pukwudgie Pale Ale' - Bottle
Firestone Easy Jack IPA - Bottle

Not thrilled, but offered a fun night when you reach into a brown bag and have no idea what your about to pull out!
I'll keep the post alive when I get more, feel free to do the same.

Picked up one mystery 12 pack about 3-4 years ago when I was really getting into craft beer. Definitely an interesting experience and it held some quality brews. Most memorable were Trout slayer, moose drool, and racer 5.

That's actually a nice collection, but it's really hard to see the draw given the situation. If the store allows you to buy any single from a sixer without additional markup, why would one purchase the mystery sixer at $11? There's no incentive.

My local Trader Joes always has these. I've always assumed it was a creative way to get rid of almost expired beers. Maybe I'll try one sometime.

Very true, yet the beers I received I did not see advertised on the shelf. The dates are fine so I didn't care. The selection of packaged beer wasn't too large, yet from the stores atmosphere I'm under the impression that they are constantly rotating what they buy and sell too customers. I'll ask next time, but the mystery is fun regardless

Give it a try, maybe your old-date theory is true but lets hope not!

That could have gone a hell lot worse than that. Unless you were expecting some hard to find gems, I don't think that it's too disappointing of a bag.

this is pretty much what I thought it would be. I've seen those "beers of the world" store stocked 6 pack "variety" boxes with Harp, Guiness, Carib and Red Stripe in there plus similar craft beer variety packs with near date local IPAs and such. Truth be told, filling the American ones with local stuff at least helps people that don't know beer very well to walk right in and grab one as a gift or something. So ya, I guess it's not as much the Devil as the world ones can be.....
