I'm a small business owner and I know how hard it is to compete with the big boys. I love supporting my local craft beer breweries and hate what In-Bev is doing by trying to "buy" their way into the craft beer marketplace.

This being said, I felt kind of guilty yesterday when I broke down and bought a variety case of Goose Island beers. I've had them before and they're good but after they were bought by In-Bev, I was determined not to support them. Again, their beers are good, that's not in question. It's the principle of the matter.

So why did I break down? Well my local distributor had a special...$19.99 a case of Goose Island! Being from Pennsylvania, I usually buy Yuengling Lager as my back-up beer for my fridge. But at $19.99, I broke down and got a decent variety pack for $3-4 cheaper.

So, what are your thoughts? Does money every sway you to purchase a beer even if you know your supporting Big Beer?

    Cheers!

I could care less about who brews it or who owns the company that brews it. If it's a quality product at a decent price, I'll buy it.

    They aren't the enemy.

If anyone is the enemy it is me-too "craft" breweries making garbage beers.

I am having trouble understanding why buy is in quotes and why that is a problem in a capitalist system. Especially since these weren't even hostile takeovers.

I really dont understand where this mentality comes from. It honestly drives me crazy about this site. People act like IN-Bev broke into their homes and kidnapped their children. ITS BEER. BEER IS BUSINESS.

On the other end of the craft/price spectrum I'm paying $12 for each 25 oz bottle of Trillium DDH XYZ IPA. Get what you want - if that includes a macro brew that is at a great price - go for it.

I think we all "break down" every year on Black Friday to support the "enemy".

Money rarely sways me. In the case of a business I find objectionable it never sways me. I won't buy ABInbev products under any circumstances.

I'd rather drink Yuengling than that urban wheat garbagio. I don't buy any In-Bev but I definitely understand buying it and have no problem with anyone who does.

Did you know that many small businesses get their business because of the success of big businesses? Also, Goose was partially owned by AB InBev before InBev bought them out completely.

$19.99 for a case of Goose Island? I would have bought two.........

Great price for a good solid beer. The fact that it is a decent quality brew makes it for me, not who.

But if I could get a case of Busch light for $4.99 (and maybe you can) I would pass. Because it is shitty beer, so the deal means nothing.

    Cheers!

I respect the fact that several people have a deep seeded dislike towards the macro companies and the power that they wield, but that shouldn't be the default argument when it comes to discussing beer, even though it usually does become the main argument. I joined BA to discuss beer. What tastes good, what's out there and whatnot. While I can go toe to toe with most anyone I've met on matters of politics, business, economics, etc., I'd rather not let those subjects blur my actual "use" for this site (although depending on my mood, I can go down the confrontational road with fairly light bait....).

So indeed, if anyone should come across any beer that makes them happy at whatever price they find it at, that's the point. Someone is happy with beer and wants to share their happy with other like minded (beer loving) folks instead of getting berated for purchasing beer from Darth Vader.

If Hill Farmstead, Alchemist, Lawson's and Fiddlehead "sold out" to In-Bev I would still buy their beer...

I love Goose Island and buy their beers regularly. $7.77/sixpack here at Wal-Mart (yes, I love Wal-Mart too, and the newer ones here are quite nice). I also wholeheartedly support AB-INBEV with many of my import beer choices, especially brown bottle Pilsener Urquell (yes, Wal-Mart too, fresh and cheap). Same love for INBEV for Spaten, Franziskaner, and Hoegaarden.

Sad to me that this has to sound controversial at all, but yes I think people should drink what they like, drink it fresh, and find it at the best possible price.

I hate big corporations. Now let me get back to my HP computer, while listening to music on my Samsung phone. Later today, I have to take my Chevy into the dealership to get repaired.

Short of human rights issues, employee mistreatment, knowingly harming the public etc etc (you know, the "big" issues) I am not against larger companies making my products. Just because the higher ups at the organization wear fancier suits, does not mean I reject that corporation out of hand.
