I know we all know that regular BCS is supposed to go year round starting soon....I'm curious to what everyone's opinion is on how the variants will work....will the production of these increase as well???? will they be seasonal??? etc.

i shuddered at the thought of the mop bucket!

but lets be fair...there, so far, has been no indication that quality will suffer here. im not saying its not possible but lets wait until it happens before we write off a good stable of beers.

as to the variants my GUESS would be that they become seasonal with a sprinkling of one and done styles. im sure they will keep the releases fresh to keep the brand going

Sofie and their IPA are still drinking great! I'm waiting to see their Nut Brown Ale around here because I'm a fan of the style. Honestly, I'm glad people aren't buying GI any longer...gives me a better chance to get some BCBS Variants/Lolita/Juliet/Madame Rose.

Few people who previously hunted it are going to turn down BCBS if they come across it because In-Bev purchased GI. They may say that they will, but very few actually will. Great tasting beer will carry the day (as it should).

So true. I'm sure to get some though. Living in Illinois does have it's perks.

But if Three Floyds were to do the same thing with the mop water, they would have people lined up waiting to spend $50/12oz bottle...

agree....it would make sense to have a couple staple seasonals (like coffee) with some variants that are one offs every now and then...keep it interesting

The next variant is Cherry (besides the previously announced Wheat Bourbon). Typically the way it works is they "target" a time to release it, but it doesn't come out until it is ready. So it can be tough to target when these actually get released. Coffee seems to be the easiest to target with a March-ish release.

Goose is usually pretty tight lipped on these sorts of things.

I can't imagine they won't start being made more often and in much larger quantities, also probably with higher price tags. The BCBS variants can be huge money makers for AB, and AB likes to make money. It makes way too little sense for them to do things the way GI used to do it. The only tough factor here is the time it is going to take to ramp up production and barrel acquisition/storage.

I disagree that great tasting beer should carry the day. If a company that leached poison into the water supply next to your grandmother's house produced the best beer in the world you probably wouldn't buy their products (even if their products were amazing). I am not saying InBev is a company that is poisoning people (far from it); but the point is that everyone has their limits of what they are willing to tolerate from a company regardless of how good their product is.

I'll turn BCS down cold no matter the price tag or how good the beer inside it is. When it comes to BCS I'd rather have a bourbon barrel aged stout that tastes only slightly inferior made by a company that is ethically far superior.

Does anyone have any insight to how the relationship actually works? I wouldn't think inbev would be to "hands-on" in how they run things with their subsidiaries. I would guess it would just be a percentage of sales goes to inbev or something of that nature, possibly with a quota for sales they have to meet.

With how GI does things and the way they are moving, I would think they are just going to make more money for the powers that be (and themselves) by making more of what they already do. They have more space and resources now, so yes more one offs and seasonals would make tons of sense because they also know what demographic they are trying to hit and that is us and those like us.

The structure was set up as John Hall is the CEO of Goose Island. All of Goose reports through him. He has one person at AB-InBev that he reports to.

So effectively AB has little direct input into how Goose is run. It is still effectively run the same way as it was prior to the buy out, but with more backing capital for things like a new barrel warehouse, Matilda fermenters, etc.

There have been so many posts on this website bitching about how Goose is owned by Bud, they are the anti-christ, I will never drink their beer, blah blah blah. We don't need another one to bitch about who owns what and how they are terrible.
