It's time for Faust's Pils and unsurprisingly enough I find it to be a really tasty beer. The first swig provides a nice herbal hoppyness, a good bitterness and a dry yet firm malt backbone. The Riegele Herrenpils is definitely more bitter, and more hoppy than this beer, but this is still nicely hoppy and bitter. The elevated OG (at 11.9%) most likely adds to the balance of flavors in this beer, the malt is definitely more present than in many other pilsners, but it's still dry the way I think a pilsner should be. It's interesting to see the diversity on display here, inbetween three pale lager beers which showcase three very distinct flavor profiles which cater to alot of different tastes. This is a definite strenght of small/regional contemporary German breweries I think, they can still offer different strokes for different folks, the way breweries used to do.

My wife loves that beer. I'm sure it will be the first beer she has when we're in Miltenberg. Keesman Herrin will probably be the first beer in Bamberg.

Not much better, I'm afraid. Though being that old I'll have to admit it held up well. Maybe the refrigeration. Might have to point out the date to the proprietor of the store.

I think that one is brewed by Kaiserdom.

For the record, I'm not impressed with this one - and I'm tempted to dump it out and go with something else.

Yea, Kaiserdom is not known for their quality, unfortunately. More of an Industriebrauer really.

Another wonderfully composed photograph with intriguing 'back lighting'.

Sorry to hear the beer was pretty to look at but not tasty.

    Cheers!

Wow, is Maisel's really that deep in color? I haven't had one in a long time... and I know a retailer who has it now!

Maisel's is a very deep orange. Really awesome beer that is frequently overlooked.

It's the one brewery in Bamberg I haven't been to. I was thinking about visiting there next time, but maybe I'll skip it.

Very skipable IMO. (Plus it's not really in Bamberg, but in Gaustadt  )

We will go right past it on our bike ride to Kundmüller and Zur Sonne (but I'm not expecting a Bockbieranstich this time:wink:). I guess I'll just wave and spend my time and money at the Spezialkeller.

The Alt Bamberg range has been called the Oettinger of Bamberg, but I think this is unfair.

Their Pils is one of the best I've sampled (think Rothaus) and the Zwickel is pretty good as well.

At 65 cents a bottle, you really can't go wrong.

Shameless crosspost but here are my thoughts:

My first Schlenkerla Helles. Appearance is beautiful, light honey colored body and dense froth on top. Aroma is pure malt with honey accompaniment and faint smokiness in the background. Mouthful is incredibly creamy, an excellent attribute. Taste is delicious, the malt shines with a touch of sweetness. Finishes slightly dry, maybe an afterthought of some smoke but leaves the glands salivating for more!

You can go wrong at 65 cents a bottle. Or was it 55 cents? Whatever Hasseröder costs, you can go wrong at that price.

Picked up a six-pack of HB Helles today to augment my collection of beer purchased over the past few months. Wanted something strictly Bavarian that I hoped would have that melanoidin hit. While it's trying to be recognized in the HB, I think the Lakefront Maibock I'm following with has a better sweet breadiness. Freshness component? More than likely.
