    New Wit Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
Thanks to @utopiajane for starting us off and reminding of the age old lesson that cats are finicky. Glorious day in these parts so have had to get outside to do all the fun "work" the outdoors and land ownership demands. An April start for my vege garden tends to give me pleasure, and with a graduation party pending, sprucing up the place will be the main chore for the next month. It's all good. As is my beer today.
A nice orange accented wit I picked up in CA.

Trust me, you do! I really dig almost all their brews. Even that brew I really didn't care for was still drinkable. I highly recommend City of the Dead Stout.

Time for another porter (yeah ok I snuck in a Sunday Morning Stout in the middle which you already know if you followed WBAYDN.. ) but time for more new beers!

Green Man Porter - Green Man Brewery

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Creamy light tan head, almost with a dark vanilla tone to it, but with two fingers tall in height and a soft little appearance. Body color is dark walnut brown with some light chestnut red highlights. Some see through quality to this brew and some clarity while looking underneath towards the head. Minimal lacing, otherwise a very solid looking beer.

Nice interesting nose. Soft nutty quality and hints a little towards peanut butter. Some faint dark charring roast hides in the background through a very soft aromatic body. Quite nice and simple.

Palate seems to continue the basics well, but lacking a little bit of depth. Light bodied if slightly wet, with a hint of milk chocolate in the mid palate. Washes clean but light, and has a bit of herbal sweetness on the finish. Slightly tight mouthfeel and a hint of faint flat carbonation to it, but also feels a little let down as there isn't much malt thickness. Little bit of roast character and some of that nice nutty flavor manages to coat and feel over the palate with a hint of peanut and chestnuts.

Overall not too bad, but lacking a little bit of depth otherwise fine.

    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5 | Final BA score: 3.65

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kind of a curious angle on these Green Man brews. Liking a focus on English malts and their malt bills seem to have interesting characters to me. Nice change of pace as well.

So, following up breakfast post with the foreshadowed week in review before the beer. My company softball team won their first game in 2 years (granted they unknowingly entered the class A league last year). In said game I had the most serious muscle injury I can ever recall having. My WebMD doctor told me it was a class 1 or 2 calf tear (or cancer or diabetes, b/c everything causes these, including running to first base, apparently). Joking aside, it was a very hobbled existence for a couple of days, but recovery has come quickly, and while I am still limping, I feel at this point a trip to the doctor was/is unnecessary.

Met friend and huge Caps fan for loss yesterday, so we decided to avoid each other for game 7. Must admit to catching some Wizards fever watching game 3. Hope to enjoy one more beer while catching game 4, but right now I am sharing second glass of this new beer:

Angel's Trumpet by Adroit Theory, a Mango IPA. I was told by bartender at brewery mango purée was added, and assumed an adjunct if you call it a "mango IPA". This second beer is a little more balanced the whole time versus my official review, but it's definitely has some dank and greenness to it to counter the fruit additive. I think this would be much more a west coast IPA without the mango. The front taste is also just a tad grainy. Otherwise, and the bulk of it, is a fine east coast IPA. Mango and a few other tropical fruits add to the sweet, dank resinous juniper-like green adds to the bitter. This brewer currently is in the "every beer is new" phase, so I likely won't get to see the hone this one in, but would love it if they tried.

Side note: coconut curry peanut butter porter in the upcoming list sounds awful to me - but I might have to try it to verify.

Got to try a couple of their lighter colored brews on recent trip and enjoyed them (IPA was one, forget other, but it was a lower ABV :slight_frown: ). Definitely a brewery I'd try more from given the chance.

I got some more (hopefuly) interesting goodies coming from them. Had an IPA by them that has since been retired at a tasting that I found very memorable so really wanted to try more stuff from them.

Good Afternoon all you New BA Sunday people and Thank You Jane for being the most gracious of hosts and your cat story. I have within my household 2 rescue cats of which Magic and Lucy are 15and 13 respectively .Never really cared for cats until I rescued these 2 but they have given me a lot of unconditional love over the years. My old guy is in his twilight.
I'm an animal lover for sure. Lost my last dog about a year ago and going to be rescuing one soon......To Beer!
Today's selection Evil Twins Mosaic Single Hop Imperial India Pale American Wheat Lager.
A- pours a rusty gold color with a lager like head and nice lacing frosting the glass sides.
S- an IPA like aroma that screams Mosaic: pine, citrus and tropical fruit with just a tad of wheat bread yeast. Pleasing.
T- follows with pine, blood orange, tropical fruit and just a little sweet wheat. Expecting sweet from previous encounters with ET. Not the case.
M- long dry bittersweet finish that lingers with tiny bubble carbonation.
O- ET continues to get the blue ribbon for putting as many styles and descriptions on their labels as possible. This label is like staring at one of those Hawaiian Luau shirts until you see double. The beer has everything it claims to have except for any stand out wheat characteristics. It all seems too much but in the end its an easy drinking sweeter IPL that hides the ABV well. I would recommend a try if you see it.
Today's lesson: Bumble bees like lager, which is cool. Have a great rest of your Sunday and as always Thanks for listening![IMG] [IMG]

So I'm late the party today, but I was visiting the Old Man down in Ocean County who just had his second hip replacement this year. Anyway, I also told @TongoRad that I was drinking this one for NBS today, and by God, I'm a man of my word. This was an interesting brew from Lagunitas. First of all, they have the best bomber prices hands down. Overall, this was a really good beer. A lot going on for an (ahem) Imperial Pale Ale. Yes, there is some sweetness from the malts, but I didn't get much. I couldn't quite get a handle on the hops. One taste and I got some onion/garlic that people here complain about (but I actually enjoy). Then I'd get some citrus on the back end (another poster got no citrus, huh). Overall, it was a very tasty brew. I would buy a six pack if Lagunitas offered it, I think, just to have some more. I may buy another bomber as it is. Anyway, happy NBS everyone.

Thanks to you and @Shroud0fdoom - I'm happy to see both of your impressions.

So I guess I'm the only one who got the Belgian spiciness and medicinal qualities? Maybe it is the hops- I just wish I hadn't drunk all that cough syrup that morning .

Sorry to hear about the cat, I have 2 of my own as well, but the problem is they TRY to run OUT of my house when I am not fast enough... very frustrating.

Also used to have a neighbors cat who would run into my house in the old neighborhood too..

Actually I have a cat story of my own this week, but didn't think it was appropriate so much as in long story short less gory details, my cat found a mouse in my house, brought up to me late at night while asleep, let it go in the office, then I came home the next day and discovered she ate it.

yup she's a killer that one...

Yeah I didn't get Citrus but after thought there was some tropical (Floral) vibe going on. It was more Earthiness going on versus fruity vibes.
