I am making several business trips up to Montreal this year and will be intentionally traveling through Vermont. I have yet to try any beers from Rock Art brewery and Foley Brothers. What is more easily available from beverage centers, and which Brewery do you fancy over the other? I plan to visit both places. Thanks!
IMO you will find a lot more Rock Art beers in most beverage centers in Vt. Foley Bros I feel is making some really good beers, I had one of there Fair Maiden DIPA's yesterday and really enjoyed it. This is not to say that Rock Art doesn't make some good beers but IMO Foley Bros is a step above them.
I'm pretty sure any store that sells beer in Vermont (at least northern) will have some Rock Art. The gas station a mile from my house has plenty of Rock Art.
I don't think that comparing these two breweries does anybody any good. Foley Bros is a new brewery that is doing a great job on a much smaller scale. Rock Art is a production brewery that has been around for some time now. I am more impressed with the way that Rock Art has been willing to change with the times They always made solid beers, but not always styles that were my go to. Their recent growth in the world of IPA's has shown that they have brewing skills beyond their previous offerings.
Looks like it's Foley Bros. However, I'm going to try and pick up one of Rock Arts offererings and compare the similar styles from each.
Foley Bros is great. The worst beer I've had by them is the Native IPA and I'd say it's still a solid 3.75 while the Fair Maiden IIPA is truly great. Also worth trying is the Citrennial IPA. Delightful. I can't say enough good things about Foley Bros.
Have not been a Foley Brothers fan prior but had had Pieces of Eight DIPA this weekend in a VT DIPA showdown. It was good, not quite in the class with the elite VT DIPAs though based on the blind tasting. It didn't make it to the second round, but was on the bubble. Also someone brought Citrenntenial from Foley Brothers...smelled & tasted overwhemingly like green peppers, definitely don't recommend it. So pieces of eight is basically the only brew from Foley Brothers I've tasted and would recommend to others...Ginger Wheat & Forgotten Ale were also disappointing imho. Personally like from Rock Art Vermontster, Belvidere & their Black IPA is solid...would recommend those three.
