New thread alert, I know similar questions regarding visiting NYC exist, but maybe not this question specifically. Admins, if you want to merge this somewhere feel free.

I am visiting in from my great state of Oregon at the end of next week. (April 23 to 27). I will be staying In Brooklyn in Fort Green.

Breweries I plan on getting to: Other Half, Threes, Singlecut (maybe?)
Bars: Need suggestions here. Willing to travel to other parts of the city. I plan on scoping on Beer Menus
Beers I want to get a hold of: Carton, Kane, Other Half, MBC, what am I missing?

Beers to take back: ? No Idea. What beers are hanging around the bottle shops right now that you all are digging on? I want to take a few back to spread some New York love to my fellow Oregonians.

All suggestions or answers would be awesome. Thanks.

You may luck into some Carton tapped somewhere in the city but not likely. Kane will require you going to NJ.

But don't sleep on anything you may find on tap from Rushing Duck, Barrier, and Peekskill though. Pretty decent chance of finding something by them on tap too.

@Kanger has a great guide to bars broken down by 'hood somewhere. I just can't find/link it on my phone. Enjoy your stay.

Other Half beers are worth the hype taproom is small, beers are great! Blind Tiger on Bleecker is a staple in NYC, Murrays Cheese and Carmine street are good places to find awesome bottles within a few blocks of Blind Tiger. Singlecut beers are good but a bit out of the way, you might be better finding a spot with some of their beers and trying them (and whole foods might have a few of their bottles). While in Brooklyn it is definetely worth checking out Torst in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn Brewery isn't too far away from there and mugs is a few blocks away as well. Its also worth checking to see who may have some Hill Farmstead as they've been distributing a bit more frequently to NYC lately. Enjoy NYC, Cheers!

Hidden gem: maybe a 10 minute walk from Torst in Brooklyn is Dirk the Norseman/Greenpoint Beer & Ale - it's a large German-style beer hall with killer, and I do mean killer sausage-based food. Cool spot for lunch and to sample a bunch of German-influenced brews too. Get the Dirk Sausage. Do NOT share it with anyone. Thank me on April 28th.

Is April 28th the day that it comes back to haunt my intestines?

It will *never* haunt your intestines. It may haunt your dreams though.

Breweries - I think those three are a solid start - and two are very accessible from where you're staying

Bars - in fairly close proximity to Other Half / Threes (which are a 20 minute walk apart), you have Owl Farm, Bar Great Harry, 4th Avenue Pub, Double Windsor, Mission Dolores and a couple of others. Out of all of them my two favourites are Double Windsor (laid back, doesn't get rammed, doesn't attract solely beer nerds, great burger, and they regularly tap gems) and Owl Farm (similar positives as Double Windsor, but without the food. Plus it really feels like a bar, rather than a space that serves beer - a trap I find too many beer bars fall into. It serves liquor too). Outside the immediate area, there are tons of good places in NYC. Some highlights would include Torst (expensive, but you need to go if you haven't been), Proletariat and One Mile House.

Beers to get hold of and/or take back: I'd throw Singlecut, Grimm, Peekskill, Finback, Transmitter, Barrier and Rushing Duck in the mix too. Plus NYC gets fairly regular kegs of Hill Farmstead - so be on the look out.

    Wholeheartedly endorse this.

    And this. Get the schnitzel!

And of course I always agree with @rollom. I see he mentioned Grimm and Transmitter and those were too I was going to toss out as well.

One that hasn't been mentioned: Gunhill Brewing. Great IPA, good DIPA, great stout. They are around town a bit. The brewery is cool if you're up for a major trek. Probably harder to get to than Singlecut.

I live in Atlantic Highlands (where Carton is) and am downtown in Manhattan weekdays. If you're going to be down by Tribeca for some reason I'd grab some Carton cans to swap for Oregon stuff. I'm sure there are others who would do the same if another part of the city is more convenient. Kane doesn't have anything out in cans or bottles at the moment since Morning Bell ran out last Saturday. Enjoy the trip.

Is there currently any HF on tap? I am coming up the 24th.

Convivial Suarez might be around at a couple places still, but won't last until then. We've already had a bunch of Edward and convivial here, so might be somewhat unlikely another shipment comes through in april, but its possible.

HF kegs kick in 24 hours (usually less) so anything tapped between now and the 23rd won't be available when you are here. Try following the shelf saisons on beer menus when you arrive so you can get updates when things are tapped...some bars will use social media to announce HF kegs but there's probably too many to follow.

Just got back from NYC. Thanks for the suggestions.

I was able to hit Other Half and grab a few packs of citra. Also went to Pony Bar, Torst, and Prolateriat.

    Best experience: Proleteriat by far
Best New York Beer I had: Other Half Nelson probably
Best other beer I had that I can't get In Oregon: Elgood's Coolship #1

Other thoughts: I utilized beer menus quite a bit to try to track down beers. One beer I was unsuccessful in getting was Main Lunch. I was alerted when it went on at a few places, and when I got there - it was no where to be found. Not sure if this is a ploy to get people in or if a keg really does kick within the day. Obviously prices were insane compared to what I'm used to, but I'm sure yall's income is nicely adjusted for it .

NY is a very overwhelming city, I can see why people stay within their specific neighborhood for their beer needs because it is expensive and time consuming to race around the city tracking down beer.

I will be sharing the Citra IPA love to friends around here. Thanks for a very overwhelming yet fun time New York.

Also, the guy at Torst was extremely friendly. He kept saying the beers I were ordering were "phenomenal." It's nice to be affirmed in my choices, but not sure if anything I ordered he would have said was crap. Also it was funny hearing him tell the customers next to me that JEPPE JARNIT-BJERGSØ was one of the top 5 brewers in the world. I mean I know Torst is owned by the guy, but top 5? Also "brewer"? I just thought that was funny. Nothing wrong with self promotion at your own establishment.

Glad you enjoyed Proletariat. Always my favorite place to visit in the city for beer.

It would be a lot easier if they packaged their beer!

Agreed, it would be so much easier to bring it back from Portland haha.

Hop Venom is actually my profile pic, freshly poured at Henry's.
