Does anyone have any advice for what to do about someone that agreed to a trade, locked in with me on a trade request, and then stopped responding to any messages (but I can see that he has read them)?

In my case I agreed to a trade with a guy back in February. He locked in the trade request with me and then the week or two following was basically a high of 0 degrees every day so we decided to wait to ship. Since then the guy has fallen off the map and isn't responding to any messages despite the fact that it was telling me he had read them. Hate being a complainer but just frustrating since the beer was for my wedding coming up in about 3 weeks and I told the other people I was in talks with that I was set.

I've sent him about 5 messages over the last 6 weeks just basically saying hey if you're not happy with the trade just talk to me and see if we can get something figured out. No response.

Thoughts? Just post feedback and move on?

Did you exchange contact information? If so, drive to his house with the beer you agreed to trade, ring his doorbell, and tell him that you thought an IP trade was easier since he wasn't responding.

Ha. Yes actually we did trade addresses. And would do that if it weren't 1,015 miles away. Anyone live in Maryland and want to drop in on him for me?

Send him one last message and tell him you're moving on. No one needs to be left hanging like that. After 90 days, if neither of you leaves feedback, the trade will drop off and you're free as a bird. Since no actual trade took place, I wouldn't leave feedback - but that's just me. Not sure how others would handle it but that's what I'd do.

It was a Rare actually, so not one that many people are going to have posted out there and available on short notice.

yeah. that's a bummer. I'd help you out if i could, but Rare isn't one of the ones laying around unfortunately.

Yeah, I did that end of last week, but more in the sense of "hey, last chance but really want/need this, just at least talk to me to see if we can work something out or at least let me know it's not happening". The silence is what's annoying. If the guy decided he didn't want to trade it fine, but don't go missing with no response when I can see you're reading some of the messages.

I agree, there's nothing more frustrating. Not much you can do but move on and be glad you didn't already ship your box out. Maybe you can repost your original ISO and have luck finding another quick trade.

Bad idea to drop his address to a local to "drop in on him". Just a bad idea for so many reasons. If you're not out any beer just move on and add to the DNT list.

I may be in the minority here, and although no beers were exchanged a deal was made. A man is only as good as his word. A deal not only made through BM's, but also a trade request. Had the other trader been upfront afterwards and communicated that he no longer wanted to do the trade would be somewhat of closure to move on and add to your DTL....BUT completely ignoring you is another story. I'd personally leave neutral feedback. Why should someone else go through the same crap you just did. That's why the feedback system is there.

Fuck that. I'd leave negative feedback. It's warranted if a trade was agreed to and the other party bailed out.

Exactly!! Too often people seem to just let it "vanish" after 90 days. What's the sense of having the trade feedback, if people don't use or execute it properly. Just doesn't make sense to me anyways.

If someone does soemthing negative I'd be pretty easy to allow for negative feedback. There's so many people that say 'well I didn't lose beer or you didn't send anything' but if it was a negative experience perhaps it calls for a negative rating.

That other guy obviously had second thoughts on trading away his Rare it seems.

Maybe he did, but that's why I said "at least talk to me and let's see if we can figure something out". If he wanted something added then let's at least discuss it is my opinion. At the very minimum let me know if the trade is a no go rather than leaving it up in the air.

I hear Ya man and I hate that too. It's frustrating. I guess he finds it easier to ignore the situation rather than face the consequences of a change in heart and a back out of the original deal. I usually like to close a trade relatively quick once communications start and avoid that week or 2 gap period just to avoid partners changing their minds and losing that line of communications.

True, unfortunately would have been in a far worse situation with frozen, busted bottles during that week of 0-single digit temps. But agree, probably would have helped to just get it shipped out.

I would vote for leaving neutral feedback explaining what happened. Once you agree to the trade through the system you agree to have feedback left on the transaction.
