Jacob, I don't see your post as a threadjack. For the record, I think your branding is outstanding. Was Helms involved? If so it was a great call. The beers of yours I've had I've enjoyed. And that's why I prefaced my comments about the branding/beer relationship with "If I'm not mistaken...". I'm far from a beer elitist. I'm more prone to plead ignorance to learn something. As for my time on BA, yes it's been short in terms of most here I'm sure. I've been a fan and evangelist for SD beers (probably a "homer" to friends back East) for a decent amount of time since moving down the street from Port Carlsbad back in the mid 90's. So yeah, I'm guilty as charged of being an outside observer. I only "discovered" BA when I started to look for ratings as more and more beers came into the market. Actually through the app. People dig what you're doing. Thanks for the history.

Happened to pop open another one of these with a friend this weekend and really got that sweetness, though mostly in the nose -- like straight up candied pineapple to my schnoz, probably one of the sweetest hop smells I've ever encountered. Palate kept it all reined in just enough for me. Really tasty stuff, but, again, their regular DIPA is a touch better, IMO, but I've also developed a taste for those pungent, onion-y notes it has.

This is confusing, because I don't think I've ever had a malty, tropical IPA. Most of the super tropical IPAs tend to have less pronounced maltiness. Also, I loved this Mosaic IPA from St. Archer because of how tropical it tasted. To me it tasted like candied pineapple and mango, and yes, dank as hell. I don't think Grapefruit Sculpin tastes particularly tropical. It tastes grapefruit-y, citrusy, which, from my perspective, is distinctly different from tropical.

It was mangoey to me (Grapefruit S). As per Mosaic, I found it hugely dank. I think that 'tropical' IPAs are not malty per se, but in contrast to some of these new session and single-hop beers that are coming out, they feel breadier, which I don't like anymore.

Ah, I see. Yes, some of the session beers I've tasted lately do seem to have a breadier finish that lingers.

I would like to hit up Saint Archers tasting room/brewery one of these days on my return from Alpine. But I can't find any info on what they have on tap. Nothing on taphunter. Is there anyway to see what they have on tap? Besides calling them. Thanks.

Hidden in there is an "on tap now" button. You need to press it to get the list (I can't link directly to that page) Is it up to date? Hard to say.

They've been building a patio outside their tasting room and it looks to be almost done. Given that and the expanded tap list, I think it is safe to say that they are stepping up their game in the tasting room department. Also, they are right across the side street from Supernatural Sandwiches (a most excellent place), Rigoberto's taco shop, and about a block away from New York on Rye's brick & mortar store - so you have options for grabbing grub and taking it to the tasting room.

That blackberry berliner weisse is damn tasty. I usually go with that the coffee brown and the stout when it is on nitro.

It hardly leaps out at you; pretty easy to miss at first glance. Not lazy.

You should check Untappd, too. I just looked and they had a few dozen reports over the weekend - enough to get a decent sense of what is on.

Really stupid move by Saint Archer.

Saint Archer was praising a Los Angeles team. I'm sure Pat is pretty torn on who to support here.

less expensive because Stone Enjoy By IPA has a million different hops in it

It might have a million different hops in it (though I can only specifically detect 999,999), but does it have, by weight, more hops? Or a larger proportion of more expensive hops? (which I'm guessing is not the answer because I assume Mosaic is one of the more expensive hops right now.... just assuming that one....)

The ABV of SA Mosaic and Stone EnjBy are roughly equivalent as well so it can't be the extra malt...

Maybe Stone's hops cost a ton more than what Saint Archer can get Mosaic for. In terms of hoppiness and flavor and overall construction of a double IPA, Saint Archer Mosaic wins for me, though I do enjoy a fresh Enjoy By.

i dont know what hops they are using besides mosaic but i imagine its not as many as go in to enjoy by, which is 13 different hops. i was trying to make a point that enjoy has more hops in it, therefore, is more expensive. and stone probably gets the best deal on hops compared to other smaller brewers who havent had their contracts in place for as long (definitely a better selection, probably same prices!)

Hop variety can actually save you money, 6lbs of Mosaic will be more expensive then 6lbs of most hops... Its not an all Mosaic DIPA, my point was it was a great beer and $1.50 cheaper plenty of $6-$9 IPA's suck

Price difference isn't much at all, if anything. I think I paid 6.99 for Mosaic (crazy price) & at Total I paid 6.99 for Enjoy By. It might be 6.49 at Trader Joes. And 5.99 at Costco. We can compare SA Mosaic DIPA to Mosaic Showers ($9!!). Most Beachwood IPA bottles go for 8. ESBC Hammerland (excellent beer) going for 8. Are they filling growlers of Mosaic at SA's tasting room? How much $?

Some brewers bottle for customers & don't have bottling line so they rent it. I just thought Mosaic by SA was really good & very fair price. Noble Showers are usually realky good and fair @$8-$9
Beachwood is very small & makes a lil money on bottling compared to draft, more labor, probly rents mini bottle system, labels etc... Im envious of SD/LA's beer these days, hope you all are enjoying them!
