Over time, I've noticed where I was big on high-ABV stouts and double IPAs, I'm more likely to brew or buy lower ABV beers. Personally, I'd like to be able to drink 2-4 pints instead of 1-2 before I'm hitting my limit. Granted, I still buy my fair share of new high-ABV beers when they come out and still love classic staples like Old Rasputin, Stone Enjoy By, etc., but for the most part I like to find something in the 4-6 percent range.

What about you folks out there? Over time, which way have you swung towards?

Depends on the season I suppose, Fall/Winter I like big ass beers just less of them, Spring/Summer I tend to drink lower alc% in bigger volume.

All situational and mood based, but majority are higher abv, just less of them unless I want a massive hangover.

I prefer medium to high ABV beers except on the golf course..I'd much rather drink something really good and drink less than pound low alcohol stuff..not about quantity for me..all about quality and taste..not that lower ABV beers aren't quality stuff..they are..but I tend to favor more complex beers.

I wanted to drink high ABV beers when I got into craft. I've definitely gotten away from that and now I rarely go over 8%. I've gotten into lagers and session beers. A 14% BA stout is just *not* appetizing to me anymore. It took me about 7 years to really figure out the styles that I prefer and heavy styles aren't for me.

Lower abv% beers are just as complex as higher abv% beers. Subtlety is a wonderful thing.

To throw it out there, for me, I don't want to drink more to be able to "pound more of them down". If I can drink a tasty 5% Kolsch that has a bready pilsner character and a nice fruitiness, or a great session IPA that made good choices with it's whirlpool hopping choices to give it great hop character, I like that I feel like I can have and enjoy more of them. I love the character of an amazing ~9% stout, but I can't have that many before I'm feeling more lit than I'd like to.

Usually 7-9% is ideal for me if I'm drinking an IPA/IIPA, which is what I tend to drink most. Of course, I can still dig a nice 5% kölsch or pale ale any day. Now, if we're talking stouts, bring on the ABV.

..yeah, I guess it depends on what type of beer it is.

Well, when your chasing DIPA's, BA Impy Stouts, and/or barleywines, I guess the ABV is going to rise...:grinning:

    Where's "stayed the same"?

I mean, I fluctuate from beer to beer, but my overall average abv has stayed pretty consistent. I do like the "big" beers, and I don't drink many "sessionable" beers, and my average over the years has always been about 8-9%.

I'm sure it sort of evens out, but I tend too really Jones for the bigger beers. My lower ones stem mostly from Sours/Wilds

Lower abv ipas and pale ales. Milds, Pilsner etc. The big beer don't interest me anymore. To much hype, bullshit and can't drink the large format by my self or with a buddy for that matter. Fuck black tuesday in a 750! If it's a big beer give me a 12 oz cellarable deal!

I try to stay somewhere between 4 and 11 percent for the most part. Really ABV's are not the focus of my choice in beers for the most part, but I can handle more than 1 or 2 higher ABV beers at a time.

Not significant to me, it is what it is. I'd love to have bcbs at 10 % , but it's not, and it wouldn't be bcbs.
