I've noticed ramps getting a lot of attention around here lately... :astonished:
Coming soon? "What Ramp Are You Eating Now?" :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Usually only do NBS on Sundays, but was cleaning up the beer fridge a bit and this was sitting in the back since November. I loved it when purchased, so grabbed it out, and the addition of #properglassware made it photo-worthy. But who to share it with...

... the photo, not the beer-someone called dibs already. Cheers and hope to see some of you on NBS later!

Good morning, BAs, and happy New Beer Sunday!

As I guessed, I didn't get a chance to post my FW BA Horizontal from last night, so I'm going to bend the rules a little bit and post what I was drinking last night. (But I have a beer lined up for NBS, so I'll be back quite soon!)

The fight was a little disappointing, but the beer was not. We had our regular beer trio, plus a couple extra friends to help out. I swapped styles each round, to try to assist in keeping palates relatively fresh (plus water and great food help).

    1 - Double DBA

This was beautiful as always, and was a clear favorite with one drinker.

    2 - Velvet Merkin

A little fizzy, but very smooth.

    3 - Abacus

Probably the most impressive beer for the couple who had never had any of these brews. Then again, they really liked everything, so.... :stuck_out_tongue:

    4 - XVII Anniversary

At this point, you can see I'm leaving some folks behind. :flushed: Don't worry; every person got to try every beer, but I wanted to keep the pour pace up to time the finale with the headline fight.

    5 - Stickee Monkee

This might have been my favorite of the bunch, at least after aging at least a year. It was probably the smoothest overall, despite being one of the highest in ABV.

    6 - Parabola

The boxes have piled up, the bottles are lined up, the fight is...really disappointing. But the beer is not. Even with a year, I still think this brew is a little "hot," so I'm thinking that's just part of the character of Parabola. Year-old Parabola seems as hot as fresh BCBS to me.

So after all that, I think I was most pleasantly surprised by Stickee Monkee. Everything aged - granted, only a year - quite well, with only the barest hints of oxidation on a couple brews (you really had to look for it). Of all the stouts (or stout-based, in the case of XVII), I think Parabola was the best, but Merkin represented itself quite well. XVII seemed much richer and more chocolatey fresh and on tap; the barleywine components seemed to come through much more in this bottle.

I think, on this night, with a year or more on each, I'd rank them approximately: Monkee, Abacus, Parabola, DDBA, Merkin, XVII. It was a great night with great food and beer and sports, even if the fight didn't live up to the hype.

Cheers, BAs; be back in a second with what I'm drinking now, and I thank you for indulging me. :grinning:

Always gotta drink at least one fresh!

Best batch right out of the gate by a land slide! FFF has obviously done some tinkering with the recipe this year, and dialed back the sweetness pretty substantially! Don't get me wrong though it is still crazy sweet when it comes to an RIS.

    Cheers!!!

Good Sunday morning, BAs... Hit the bottle store yesterday and found a Ruination 2.0, which my liver has been itching to sample. While I liked the original, this is delicious, too. I doff my chapeau to Stone, a brewery which never seems to fail to deliver the goods. Cheers !!!!!!
