Greetings NBS aficionados! Looks like spring is turning into summer around these parts with sunny skies and 80 degrees today. It put me in the mood for some planting and a new warm weather beer. Going to try Get Right Kolsch by Half Acre Brewing in Chicago. I recently picked this up when visiting the pub. Let's give it a whirl!

Pours a crystal clear gold color with one finger of soapy white foam. It settles nicely leaving a ring of foam around the glass and tiny bubbles drifting upward.

Aroma is bready and yeasty with a hint of melon rind.

Taste is like liquid bread with a green melon flavor in the back. Pretty simple and straightforward, but refreshing.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp with a very dry finish. I'm knocking off this bomber rather quickly craving another sip!

The results? After many months of high abv. stouts and DIPA's, it's a nice welcoming summer slammer after a day of working in the sun. It's refreshing, not too filling, with a 'modest' 4.7 abv. It's a pretty simple style that doesn't seem to get a lotta love, but fills a niche with the warmer weather. My score was a 4.06 / rDev +6.8%. I guess that makes me a fan.

    Enjoy you Sunday!

Good afternoon all NBS followers and friends. It is a beautiful late spring day here in central NH with the temperature finally in the high 70's as we speak. It has been morning with little time and many things to do. I was out the door and on my bike at 6:00 am and did my usually practice loop of 50 miles and was home about 8:45 and then started with my yard chores for the weekend and well this is the first break I have had.

I visited my friends at Garrison City Beerworks in Dover NH yesterday and brought home a few crowlers of there Illusion IPA, 7.2 abv. Another great beer in the lineup.

This beer pours a orangey yellow color with a little haziness and a nice white head on the top when poured into my tulip glass from the fresh crowler.

There is a bright citrus aroma with a big grapefruit nose and soft undertones of other tropical fruits as the grapefruit mellows out.

The taste is strong of citrus fruit with the grapefruit once again coming through in the beginning. The bitterness from the hops comes through in the back to make a very nice balance in the flavor.

The mouthfeel is pleasant and smooth with a smooth finish.

All in all this is another good IPA from this new brewery in Dover, NH. I haven't actually rated this beer yet but see it coming in somewhere between 3.9 and 4.1 in my humble opinion. They are doing so many good things at this time and slowly starting to expand with finally some local delivery of some kegs of there products.

Well we have people coming for a small BBQ later this afternoon so I must try and make myself presentable for them. Perhaps if time permits I will find another new beer to share later on this evening.
    Cheers to all.

Hello everyone. Happy NBS!!!! Well I made it to the show today. Spent most of a gorgeous day her in SE CT outside cleaning up the yard. Rebuilt my demolished fire pit , cleaned up all the debris from one hell of a winter, put a whole pile of parts into my plow truck to try an get ahead for next season. Quite a few beers got put away, mostly all my new goto's for the warm weather. Finally sittin down to relax now, decided to give this a try thanks to @BeerZomB13.
Gotta say after a hard pour Ito my pint the head dissipated almost immediately. Taste is what the can says sour salty delicious. Although a little more sour than I thought it would be but I'm not complaining. I've only tried a handful of gose's and this is right up there. If it where a little easier for me to get Id drink these everyday this summer. Gonna go check on my smoker now see yall later.
By the way the photobombing dipshit is my oldest kid Chunk. He spent most of his day chasing me around and taking all the sticks I piled up back to where they belong in the middle of the yard

What an absolute Beautiful Day-CHEERS to my BA Brothers and Sisters hope you are well and enjoying the weather!
My NBS selection for today is Avery’s highly acclaimed The Maharaja. This is my third venture into the AVERY line-up of beers The Reverend and The CZAR being the other two. The Reverend was a decent Scotch Ale but did not meet my Founders Dirty Bastard threshold. The CZAR was not what I expected in a Russian Imperial Stout and I was a bit disappointed.

As far as the American DIPA Style goes my two favorite’s so far are Great Lakes Chillwave and Dogfish Head 90 Minute (there are so many I have yet to sample). I have tried Columbus Brewing Company BOHDI which was excellent but after all the hype, expectation and BOHDI worship I felt a letdown when I finally tasted it. I also give an honorable mention to Stone Brewery’s outstanding DIPA “Ruination”.

    Here goes with my review------------

    AVERY The MAHARAJA

    Double IPA
22 ounce bottle poured into a Pint Glass
    10.2% ABU 102 IBU
    Beer Temp 50 degrees

Appearance - 4/5 The head is frothy and semi translucent white in color, approximately two fingers thick and dissipated after a while. Nice lacing affect left behind in the glass as the beer disappears. This brew is slightly hazy and is a rich orange/ amber ray of sunshine.
Smell - 4.25/5 Avery’s offering is definitely a Hop-fest for the nose paired with a sweet fruity/citrus aroma. The malts and hops are ever present and in your face as the brewer intended. Taste - 4.5/5 This DIPA incorporates smooth malt flavors with the backdrop of a perfect balance between bitterness and sweet. The Hops are true to form for a DIPA. The citrus/grapefruit flavors are distinct and help to mask the taste of alcohol.
Mouth Feel - 4/5 The Maharaja is a medium-bodied offering that is smooth, well balanced, unrestrained and very appealing to the palate. The carbonation is noticeable and tingles the tongue just the correct amount.
Overall - 4.25/5 I really enjoy American DIPA’s and look forward to trying anything in this style that is new to me. Avery has produced an excellent American Double India Pale Ale in my opinion which is worthy of the accolades it receives. The complex flavors are vivid, the alcohol is hidden well and the mouth feel is robust resulting in a solid offering from beginning to end. This brew is similar to Stone Brewery’s Ruination.

Ommegang Scythe and Sickle bottled on date 7-21-14 best before month and year 9-2016

Appearance - dark cloudy orange tint, almost looks like muddy river water in the middle of the glass surrounded by that orange tint, really nice 2 1/2 fingers of dark shade head.

Aroma - very Hefeweizen like. Also getting that spicy rye on the nose and lots of yeasty notes.

Taste - Very complex beer for such a low ABV percentage. Tons of fruity esters, spicy rye, ripe oranges and apricots. nice amount of carbonation on the tongue. Light caramel sweetness and bitter hops in the aftertaste. Getting some more flavors that are difficult to describe. Maybe sour white grape and earthy soil, hmmmm I don't know, amazing stuff though.

Verdict - I've been wanting to try a few beers that have the 4 different type of malts used to make it and Scythe and Sickle does not disappoint. I love complex beers like this one. However, this would be a very difficult beer to drink for someone that is new to beer or maybe new to craft beer. The flavors are just popping all over the place. It's another one of those beers that you taste something different every time you take a drink. Some people may not like that but to me, this is a sign a GREAT beer.

    Score - 92 out of 100.

Back again for round 2. Although I usually have more than one new beer on Sunday's I rarely make it back to share. Today has been great everything is done and I'm waiting for my dinner in the smoker. I'm sure some of you know waiting for a smoker consists of nothing but sitting in a chair enjoying the SUN an drinking beer
So continuing on with the theme for me today I present this. Again thanks to @BeerZomB13 for these as well. While same style as the Westbrook the head lasted longer on this one:wink: and the taste is more Limey? More like a funky tart sprite ? Overall still crushable but I'm gonna go with the Westbrook as #1 for today.
Oh an still with my theme my little kid was jealous so she got in. Her names Darla

Last week they were cleaned out and we were asked to not post them in this thread. For myself I created two posts, one in WAYBDN where it is allowed and one here. The music went there with a link here for them to be easily found. Also said a bit about the beer. Here was a bit about the day, the beer, and how my choice of music "happened" last Sunday. Seems to have survived...

    New American IPA Sunday!

Greetings from a truly beautiful day here at The Jersey Shore. Warm, bright sunshine, and new beer. As good as it gets, perhaps. Speaking of good, my (recently turned 20 yrs old) daughter spent some quality time with me today! What's the occasion, I wonder?!?
But, we're talkin' new beer, so here goes: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2372/118971/?ba=NiceTaps

I've been away for a few weeks.
Not locked up "away" but no new beers or away for work in Boston, Philly and NYC where I had been drinking many East Coast beers, none of which were West Coast hop bombs. I did however figure out the difference between East Coast and West Coast IPA/DIPA's... and as 2Pac said... Da West side is da best side.
Now I'm settled in back at home with a few new beers to work through today...including this
    [IMG]
I can't recall ever having the first iteration of Ruination but perhaps that's a good thing because I love this (although I know they aren't the same beers).
Pour showed a lighter color than I was expecting but the nose, as the beer splashed around in the glass, hit me like a ton of bricks...this is a West (best) Coast DIPA.
Nice frothy head that is slowly fading, great piney, hoppy nose and all in all, a great DIPA, this first DIPA I've had in a while.
While no RuniaTen, which is my favorite DIPA from Stone, this is no red headed step child.

Good after NBSer's. I'm usually not an active poster on here on Sundays due to a good amount of drinking on Fridays and Saturdays. I do enjoy reading everyone's posts though. Definitely in the mood to drink today as we are having some awesome weather in Chicago this weekend. Productive day, got a workout in, helped my wife with the garden, lunch with friends, now cracking open A Tiny Beautiful Something while watching Grizzlies vs Warriors.

Very crisp, clean beer, with some citrus zest. Leaves a pretty good of amount of lacing, always a plus for me. Was kinda disappointed with the smell, very bready and grainy, with very faint tropical notes. Overall not a bad beer to drink if your looking for a low ABV beer ( 5.5ABV) on a warm day.

So my son bought a six of this to take to a friends house for the fight. There was one left in the cooler overnight. After a long mountain bike ride it had to be drank. The temp was around 60 so warm for an IPA. I don't know that this didn't improve the situation. Aroma was fantastic and the taste was right there with it. A very nice example of an 85 IPA. To me Lagunitas is hitting it out of the park with regularity.

What's happening NBS players. Nice sunny day here but still a bit cool for May. Spent the day getting stuff done round the house and now settling in for some beers, grilling, and relaxing before the inevitable work week takes over.

My new beer today is Overboard, a barrel aged Russian imperial stout, from Port Jeff Brewing here on the island. It is said to have been aged for 4 months and it's canned which is pretty cool too.

The beer pours out an oil slick black color with a tan head. The nose is malty and sweet with slight chocolate tones. The initial sip is a big malt blast right to my palate. Bitter tones of dark chocolate start to come on nicely. Sweet and smooth on the finish with lots of nice bourbon flavor and oaky notes. The mouth feel is sticky, lush, and really enjoyable.

Overall I feel that this beer is very good to excellent. I'm in the low to mid 4's all around,

After watching the Wizards come back against the cold-late Hawks to steal home court advantage, decided to move the "party" outside, much to the chagrin of my girlfriend's one cat. Thursday's Caps wine as awesome, felt we deserved it. Happy they made it a game yesterday, I saw that being a 4-1 or 5-2 game after watching the Rangers outplay us in the 1st period.

Wedding was nice last night, although Miller Lite was the beer for the night. Making up for that today with even more new beers. Grabbed the Finest Kind because it probably needed to be consumed (BB 7/?/15). I think that puts it in the "not the freshest" range, and it gave me that impression. Seemed almost more like an APA that was a tad hoppy. I believe I got the sense that it could get higher rating fresh.

Went with the last of 3 Rodenbach's I picked out a while ago. This one is Caractère Rouge, and is solid as are all the Rodenbach beers I have had so far. The fruits didn't come out in the nose immediately, but did before I got too far into the drink. Clean look to the ruby beer. The raspberry came out early for me, but nearing the end, cranberry notes seemed stronger. Didn't get much cherry, but they might have contributed to the sour more, which was light, but seemingly stronger in this beer than its sisters from the same brewery (at least what I recall).

There were a few posts that survived on page 1 here today. I hope if we don't go overboard, maybe an occasional post with one relevant song would be acceptable. I got the impression that this may be troublesome: a post with 3-4 embedded videos is made, someone replies to the music portion of the post with 2 related offerings. Since the quote re-embeds the 3-4 videos, we are adding up the items that were causing loading issues.

Add another reply, the thread has "sidetracked" to music - which as I recall was part of the explanation for the ban. I don't think that was as big an issue as the site performance, but kinda see the point (although it doesn't bother me).

So as I suggested last week, perhaps some self control on this thread, maybe deleting the media from a quoted message (for those who know how to), and we can have relevant music in this thread, too. Maybe??
