In one month Odell will be releasing 2 new bombers... One I have had on tap and it was quite delicious...
    Barrel Thief
Imperial IPA Aged in Oak Barrels
The hop has met its match! Barrel Thief is an Imperial IPA that was stolen from the brew house and stashed away in medium toast, new American oak barrels. The brew features a notorious tropical fruit hop character that tangles with hints of vanilla, dried fruit, and toasted nut from its time served in the barrel.
    9.4% Alcohol by Volume
    Available in 750ml bottles.
Tap room release party is May 29-31!

    Myrcenario
Double IPA Aged in Jose Cuervo® Barrels
Myrcenario is the result of a barrel exchange with our friends just south of the border. We aged our Imperial IPA in retired Jose Cuervo® Tequila barrels. In turn, the folks at Jose Cuervo aged their Tradicional 100% Agave Tequila in our retired beer barrels. The brew boasts a spicy, tropical hop character that balances the toasted oak with a surprisingly smooth finish.
    10% Alcohol by Volume
    Available in 750ml bottles.
Tap room release Cinco de Mayo

Thoughts on these guys? I think Barrel thief could be a rotating 4 pack in the future...

As someone who is not a fan of hoppy barrel aged offerings, I'd personally prefer Odell to direct their energy in other directions.

I've encountered both recently. Barrel Thief was at the Cedar Creek Pub a little while ago and Myrcenario is still on tap at the Old Chicago on Buckley. The Barrel Thief I had was sour. Not sure if that was intentional or not. For what it was, it was fine. It wasn't at all what I was expecting, though.
With Myrcenario, OC just listed it as a "BA Myrcenary" on the menu without saying what kind of barrel. I assumed it was straight oak as I actually don't care for tequila and I didn't taste any. Either way, I really liked it a lot. I'm all over that one.

Ugh, seems like a waste of perfectly good batches of hoppy beers to put them in a barrel, gotta say I agree with denver10

At least they're not Ballast Point, who takes a delicious batch of Sculpin and ruins it with some goddamn habanero peppers

I recently had Myrcenario at Old Chicago as well and I thought it was awesome! Like Domingo said you couldn't taste tequila.

You two get all my dislikes.

I like BA IPAs to a degree, and I bet this would be pretty good. I liked Pipewrench by Gigantic (gin barrel) and Fanboy by Elevation and am crazy in love with Rumble by GD (it's just oaked but still). And pepper in beers can be fantastic... example: Yellow Fever by Comrade.

I'm a big proponent of tequila-barrel aging, so you guys saying there's no hint of tequila on Myrcenario is a bummer.
The Avery beers I've had aged in tequila barrels have been muy delicioso.

There's always a shot the bottled offerings could be different. For instance, the Barrel Thief I had was definitely sour and their description doesn't seem to reflect that. Maybe the draft versions were trial runs?

I tried a working version of Avant Peche 6 months before the bottled release that was horrid. Yet the bottled version turned out great.

Unless it's virgin white oak like Oak-Aged Jai-Alai and Rumble... and Burton Baton... but at I'd almost consider the last 2 as American Strong Ales, not necessarily IPAs.

It's pretty sweet they're putting out an Oktoberfest.

That's awesome, can't wait to try a lot of those.

Related: I can buy a 1/4 barrel of Mountain Standard?! Oh my, I probably shouldn't have known that...

I still can't wait for the Gose & Rye IPA myself.

And while I welcome the Oktoberfest, I'm not fond that it's cutting into St. Lupulin's schedule.

I love both those styles. And it's Odell so there's a 99.9% chance it'll be fantastic.
