We are excited to announce the launch of our brand, Brash Brewing. We released two collaborations with our buddies Clown Shoes in early June "pimp" & "flight of the pimp". This Monday July 9th our first solo beer The Bollocks will start hitting bars and stores in MA. It's a 12%abv 110 ibu super hoppy imperial IPA. We love big bold beers and that's what we intend to make. Check out www.brashbeers.com for more info. Cheers and happy drinking

Ben, it was awesome having you in town (even if you didn't let me sleep for three days)! The Bollocks is so good I am jealous, despite the fact that you are letting me sell it for you.

Lol, is that why Julios tweeted on Thursday that they just got "Blatant Brewing Bollocks 22oz" in? I was wondering what that was.

Call me confused. I don't see the tweet referring to "Blatant Brewing Bollocks 22oz"?? Want to clear up any confusion and be sure people know this is a beer concept between Julios and Clown Shoes.

They tweeted this on July 12th:

    Blatant: Unpleasantly loud and noisy.
Brash: Lacking in sensitivity or tact.

Both words begin with 'B.' Both are new brewing companies starting in Massachusetts this year. I can see where people would be confused.

Not sure what you mean- but Brash is their own company that is doing contract brewing at Mercury Brewing Company (same place Clown Shoes does their brewing) and was started because of Texas laws restricting them from brewing there. They did a collaboration with Clown Shoes (Pimp/Flight of the Pimp), but The Bollocks is their first independent beer that I think Clown Shoes is helping them distribute. To my knowledge Julios had nothing to do with it, but promote it.

I tried the beer on-draft at their Deep Ellum release on Tuesday. Definitely an interesting DIPA. Had a very strong hoppy/malty/orange aroma + taste. A nice first beer. I wish Brash the best of luck.

So is Brash connected to Clown Shoes in any way, other than their use of Mercury?

It's kind of weird to come out with collabs as their first beers, and then the label on Bollocks even looks like it would fit into Clown Shoes to the point that I'm seeing it stocked on shelves in the middle of all the other Clown Shoes beers.

I think Clown Shoes is just helping them get started. I thought the collab as their first beer was weird too, but I guess Clown Shoes was just trying to help get their name out there. They also probably use the same labeling, distributors, etc.

Did anyone else try the Bollocks yet? I'm interested in hearing other opinions.

Ben Fullelove and I became friends during my visits to Houston and to his bar, The Petrol Station.

I eventually learned of his marketing ideas and recipe concepts. They impressed me as bold and creative.

It wasn't hard to convince Ben to make beer with the folks at Mercury.

It did take a little effort to convince Mercury to take Ben on, as things are tight, but Rob has invested in many new tanks at the brewery and the move to a new facility is nearby, so the timing is good.

I am in charge of local distribution through my wholesale company, Arborway Imports.

I am in charge of national distribution through my wine and beer brokerage company, Pipeline Distribution.

Ben is in charge of recipes, marketing, brand vision/direction.

Ben is one of the smartest, kindest, most hip people I have met in over a year and a half traveling the country selling Clown Shoes. You are going to have fun getting to know him!

sure I guess. clearly a typo as my company, BLATANT Beer has nothing to do with this beer, although I would like to pick up a bottle or two while its fresh.... great opportunity to head to Julios and stock up!

Without any confusion I can say I've enjoyed both the session and the IPA from BLATANT Brash brewing I've had on tap in greater Boston

Blatant and Brash are not the same thing.

The Backlash from Blatantly calling (Jack's) Abby Brash wouldn't be a Pretty Thing, even if you were just Slum(Brewing)ing around after an Idle-Handed Night Shift at Mystic Pizza.
