Isn't BA IRS only for sale at Stone stores? I agree with your thoughts on recalls vs. returning to brewers in general, but in this case it's a distinction without a difference.

I say we wait a month for the pasadena store to open. Then we can easily return any bottles we open that are sour.

Alright folks, here's the official word: definite issues with the bottles not being up to our standards. (But you already knew that.) Thank YOU for bringing it to our attention, and for being pretty darn understanding. We're bummed about it, but we're taking it VERY seriously and we're looking into ways to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again. As mentioned last night, we are GLADLY issuing refunds to anyone who returns their bottle—full, empty, or somewhere in between—to any of our Stone Company Store locations: Escondido, South Park, or Oceanside, with our sincerest apologies. No questions asked.

To anyone who may have purchased a bottle for on-site consumption at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, we're happy to refund your purchase price with a receipt. @Rckmo10, our policy at the Bistro has always been to refund money for bottles that are unsatisfactory, and I'm sorry that your experience didn't reflect that. Our Beverage Team will be re-emphasizing this to the entire service staff in their next meeting. I'll send you a separate message to rectify this.

@Overlord, to the absolute best of our knowledge, no bottles made it out into distribution, so it shouldn't have been on any store shelves beyond our own. And we've now pulled it from our shelves until we know more about what may have happened.

Thanks again for your patience and loyalty. We're committed to making this right.
    Cheers,

Glad you guys are owning up to it.
Now how about putting a keg of it on for growler fills?

Return a bottle, get a growler? I like where your head's at!

isn't that what they are doing? Someone said they pulled the bottles from the South Park store, so i would assume they are doing this with other's. Plus I don't think they specified which store you have to return it to, so I would assume the one you bought it from is good enough. And they are taking the bottles back no questions asked, empty or full. Sounds like they are doing all the can, plus who knows what else they will decide after their meeting.

edit: guess I should have refreshed my screen, looks like this has been addressed

Glad Stone is stepping up and doing the right thing about this (no need to make another Alpine reference...oops!).

I am still amazed that the infection wasn't noticed by some form of QC with so many bottles showing signs right out of the gate. You'd think breweries would learn from the past mistakes of other breweries' infected BA releases (although it took Lost Abbey and Odell several botches to learn from their own mistakes I guess).

Thankfully it has happened enough that most beer geeks know infection risks come with barrel aging from small/rookie breweries. And thankfully most breweries make it right when it happens.

If we have already discarded an empty bottle can we bring back the receipt for a refund or do we need to have the empty?

That's funny how awesome they are to jump on this so quick, when just two weeks ago I emailed them back about an amazingly over carbonated bottle of Smoked Porter and all I heard were crickets....

I'm curious how "quality control" didn't catch an issue that seems to present in 90% of all bottles.

Sorry I can't tell if this was sarcasm or not. I guess I could have, but overall it's not that big of a deal just more so frustrating. The Smoked Porter was past it's "best by" date but I've still never seen a Stone bottle gush like that before and I feel that beer should hold up even past it's best by date. There was no taste of infection and since it's not bottle conditioned I'm not sure what it could have been.

Oh well you can't win them all and I'm sure I'll keep buying Stone beers.

Better customer service would have been not releasing the bottle at all. In effect, one must be an active BA or follow Stone on facebook/twitter to hear about this "recall." This group makes up a miniscule portion of craft beer drinkers.
    Agreed.

I thought it was going out to San Diego stores, but guess not. In any event, sounds like they are fixing the problem. Yay.

Will there be some who don't see our posts? Yes, unfortunately, but it's our hope that a majority will. Or perhaps more likely, should they sample their bottle and find that it was one of those not up to par, they'll contact us to get it taken care of, just as several of you did.

I've made sure that every member of our staff has been alerted of the situation and our no questions asked refund policy. We will also be posting signs at our registers and sending a notice out in our weekly Stone Company Store email newsletter. We first and foremost recognize that it's unacceptable, and as mentioned, we're working to identify the underlying cause and we're implementing additional QA measures to ensure that things like this don't happen again. We would have of course preferred that these bottles didn't go out, but they did, and we are working to correct it as best we can.

We have one job, and that is to make consistently amazing beer. If you had a bad experience with one, we definitely want to know about it. If you'd like to forward your note to me ([email protected]), I'll gladly see that it gets addressed. Inquiries to [email protected] are usually the best way to submit any questions or comments, but it sounds like this one may have inadvertently fallen through the cracks, and I want to personally ensure that the follow-up doesn't. Thanks.

    All best,
