I heard word form a fairly reputable source that this release was going to occur on May 23rd (same weekend as Golden Angel).

Anyone else see anything other than word of mouth that I have?

Also heard the head sour brewer is leaving Green Man over some dispute and potentially starting his own brewery in Asheville?

I don't know about the Maceo release date. I did hear about the second rumor. I did not hear it was a dispute though. Something something making a new brewery in another NC town not far from Asheville.

Mike isn't leaving due to a dispute. He is opening his own brewery up that will be entirely wild ales. I just don't think he had interest in all the IPAs that Green Man is putting out and wanted to get more creative with sours and saisons. Gonna be just down the road in Weaverville.

Per Mike, "The brewery will be a one man operation for the most part, focusing on 100% bottle conditioned farmhouse ales/sours/wild ales."

He is going to take over the NC sour scene. Operations are hopeful to begin by the end of the year.

I love speculating rumors. Via Tony D, how much is Mike going to produce as a one man team. Small batch stuff i assume.
Also does this mean the end of snozz or do you believe the proprietary receipe is with GM and can be produced the same without their sour guy?

Love hearing info though about more sours/wilds coming.

Not sure if you were referring to me, but the information that I listed isn't speculative. I don't know about the Maceo release so I'm not speculating on that.

As for the Green Man sours, I really don't know. My guess is that Mike will leave those with Green Man and then produce something similar on his own. I'm not even sure if Green Man will carry on a sour program without Mike there. It's really only 3 beers so I'm sure Mike can work with either scenario. Snozzberry may carry on since they will retain the recipe and there is a house strain of bugs that do the difficult work.

Casey in Colorado is a husband/wife team and he is putting out tons of high quality and tasty brews so I would have no doubts that Mike will be able to do the same. Casey is only open a day each month so that leaves him with plenty of time to do the rest of the stuff he needs to. With sours/wilds you aren't brewing with nearly the frequency so he will just need a bunch of space and barrels and then people to help bottle. I have no doubts that he will be able to produce a lot of great beers on his own and if/when he needs someone else he can always do that.

This is by far the brewery that is going to be the most interesting in the coming months. Glad I'll be back in NC to make it to these releases and hopefully help him bottle from time to time.

Damn this is exciting news. Asheville is a great place to be right now. Can't wait to visit in November!

    The death of Green Man?

Only thing I've ever enjoyed has been those sours.

LOL no. While their sours are the only thing I personally care about as well, they are a pretty small part of Green Man's sales I would think. They have a pretty big local following, I don't see them going anywhere any time soon with or without the sours.

And that is precisely why I believe Mike would want to leave. He knows the market for his beers and the craziness that follows. Keeping the sour program so limited has been a major hindrance to what he wants to do. Granted, space has long been an issue for Green Man. Now I am speculating @Dil_thebeerdrinking_do

No complaints from this guy, I am planning on being in town for the Golden Angel release. Looks like a great beer weekend all around!

Now if Burial could also put something special on, I think my beer life would be just about perfect!

So I looked at their facebook post about it... Super excited. I do have one question though. They mention you get a wrist band and then go get the bottles from another "stand." Does that mean I can show up earlier, get a wrist band, drink some beers and generally relax until 2? Or are a they going to sell the wrist bands at two and I have to then go immediately get the bottles just after I get the band? (Does the wording of this question make sense?)

    Thanks
