There are so many these days. I've been trading for some outstanding IPA's coming from the east coast (Brooklyn, CT & VT). And I still haven't tried Boo Koo IPA (Mosaic) from Mother Earth.

And still some of the best damn ipa's are coming from Alpine at less than $6 per bottle. $5 & $5.50. I think that will come to an end soon. But thats a different subject.

"About a month ago you may have seen a post made on our instagram account about the support we have received from the Dodgers. We sincerely apologize for the post and our comments. San Diego is home not only to our brewery, but to our 60 employees as well. We have a ton of pride in our hometown, and the love we receive from it. Changes have been made in regards to the handling of our social media to prevent future mishaps. Thank you. – Saint Archer Brewing Co."

Interesting that they mention pride in their hometown, but nothing about The Padres. Nice way to stick to your guns while trying to deflect the negativity incurred by it

I don't think there was anything wrong with their original post. The Dodgers have bought a ton of their beer and just because St. Archer is located in San Diego doesn't mean they have to support the Padres. The problem was getting into arguments with people in the comments section even if I find it laughable the Padre's fans complaining. Any Padres fan that thinks the Dodgers even consider them a rival need to get real. SF and LA is the only rivalry they care about in Dodgerland.

Hate the Dodgers but I can't disagree with any of this.

More marketing unsavvy from a brand with a mixed record on that account, and particularly harmful as this one caused heartburn not with the beer nerds (who are, we have to admit, a small minority of beer drinkers) but with your run of the mill SD local (who probably represent a bigger piece of the pie than the nerds). Too bad, as I think their stuff is preferable over the vast majority of recent startup stuff in the SD area.

Then again, maybe whatever loss they feel in the SD market will get made up for by the Dodger market...

I'm not even all that sure about that. It's not like everybody is online, especially to the degree that you'd have caught that Instygram thread.

The *real* potential damage in that thread is to piss off the Padres organization. As others may have said here or elsewhere, they *do* sell some Saint Archer in Petco Park (unlike what that drunk employee that stole the keys to Instagram posted). But if you are trying to negotiate for more availability and visibility, then why risk ticking them off?

And then the snippy stuff about some of the other breweries. Really? What a bunch of nyah nyah nyah.

Somebody elsewhere speculated this might be a few people in their massive ownership group, people that have been known to get sloshed and flap their gums in the past.

As a former Padres fan and still a huge sports fan from San Diego now living in LA, I could care less. Baseball is like watching a chess match. Make great beer and I will drink it. Most of us still drink Big Beer ala Bourbon County. Maybe it was the brightest thing to do but if the product is great it will sell itself.

Haha, as for me, I actually hope that, whoever it was posting those initial replies, they were drunk -- that at least would make sense of it. Posting that stuff sober? No excuse. (particularly the other brewery stuff, Padres jabs, etc.)

'Course, at the end of the day, this is probably just a blip on the radar. Gotta love the instantaneous news cycle.

Do you work for St. Archer? Scratch that, did you work for St. Archer? Because your tone sounds just as condescending at dickish as whoever was running the Instagram account on that fateful day.

Look, the initial post really wasn't anything to get that upset over. I'm, admittedly, a huge Padres fan, and at the same time, I really like LA as a city, so I wasn't that offended by the post. It was just so weird, unnecessary, and tone deaf, especially when one takes into consideration that their beer is available at Petco Park! Also, I have a hard time believing the Dodgers are buying metric shit tons of St. Archer. Last time I was there I didn't see any of their beer. I saw lots of Golden Road and Montejo, but no St. Archer, and this was last season.

I don't work in the beer industry, nor have I ever. I said I had no issue with the original picture and quote but did state that they got into trouble with their behavior in the comments. Not exactly glowing praise for the company. I don't think there was anything rude about my post either. I've lived in Southern California my whole life, specifically the Long Beach/Orange County areas. Baseball is one of the only sports that I don't enjoy, joining golf and nascar, sitting down to watch. That being said, I have many friends who are out of their minds for either the Dodgers or Giants and it's absolutely insufferable hanging around them when their teams are playing. The Padres just don't bring the same weight and there's not anything wrong with that. I'd like to think it's because the people in San Diego are a bit more chill, but maybe I'm wrong.

I don't think you need to support your home team if you're a brewery, but I do think it's in poor taste to show outright disdain for them. Considering that was what was shown in that whole ordeal, the fact that their official statement on the matter made no effort to backtrack from that position seems a bit glaring.

The point you are making, that Enjoy By has "more hops in it," is unsubstantiated. Barrel for barrel with Mosaic, how do you know that's the case? More different hops, sure, but how does that matter when we're discussing price? Yeah Enjoy By is super hoppy and tasty, and in my opinion you cannot draw that conclusion by tasting them that Enjoy By simply has more (higher quantity overall) hops in it. They're both big DIPA's and I honestly think St. Archer has a better, more pronounced hoppiness coming from it, so I would be very cautious about saying Enjoy By has more hops, regardless of how many varieties they use (which means nothing in this discussion).

Maybe you know someone at St. Archer though and already asked them how many lbs/barrel of hops they use in it. In that case, I will defer to your knowledge.

Saint Acrher said what they said, but I at least now know where there's a Dodgers bar in San Diego.
