Ever had a beer from the Congo? No? Well then what's the most isolated country you've sampled beer from? Was it any good?

Pretty widely available, but Hinano from Tahiti. Solidly average.

Good question. I've had Harar beer from Ethiopia. It was...not that great. Bud-light level, at best.

I've also had Flying Horse Royal Lager from India (not third world I know, but still fairly obscure). It was okay, at best. Pretty plain lager. Same brewery that makes Kingfisher.

My favorite obscure beer was Casablanca Beer from Morocco. It was surprisingly decent. I think I rated it a 3.25.

From developing countries I really enjoyed Red Horse while I was in the Philipines. It isn't that great imported.

I've had a couple from Africa: Tusker Beer from Kenya and Hakim stout from Harar Brewery in Ethiopia.

Tusker was actually pretty good for an AAL and I'd recommend picking it up if you haven't had it before.

Hakim stout is listed as a foreign export stout but honestly it was more like a watery dubbel in both color and taste. Still recommend getting one if you see it but that will be all you need. I've heard Harar makes a "good" pilsner though.

I'll second Tusker. Very much pleasantly surprised with that one.

Drank whatever the local fizzy stuff was in Uganda and Vietnam. Forget the names but they:

    1. Wouldn't win awards for blowing minds
    2. Still tasted good at the time

Spent a lot of time in Sierra Leone the last few months. Beer selection there is lacking. They do have a brewery though, Sierra Leone Brewing Limited (partially owned by Heineken) and their Star Lager (which also seems to be brewed in other African countries) is drinkable, though the whole time I'm looking forward to that first beer back in the states.

Lithuania isn't all that foreign, I guess, but that's probably it for me. There is a Lithuanian heritage celebration in Baltimore each year and coworkers have invited me. Pretty good stuff, some from Lithuania, some brewed in the same traditions here in the city, some general craft offerings that made their way from there to the UK to here (which weren't as interesting, but likely due to the travel and time involved).

Spent two weeks in Ecuador earlier this year. Several breweries, especially in Quito and in Cuenca are trying to branch out and brew IPAs and stouts, instead of lagers which are typically flavorless. The IPAs were all off but some of the stouts quite good. My guess was that lack of hop quantity/quality was the main factor in lackluster, or worse, IPAs.

I had many from Bosnia and Herzegovina when I lived there. Most were typical Euro-style lagers, but there were several unique offerings.
