Hi there. Gonna have a bit of time to kill in a couple weeks at LAX. Does anyone have an idea what sort of beer options exist in the terminals at LAX? Searched and only found recommendations for places near LAX, but we are not planning on leaving the airport. Cheers! joe
How much is a bit of time are you talking about? What terminal? What time of the day/evening will you be in?
All good questions... it'll be Sunday, around 7pm. I think we have about 2 hours. The flight we'll be on left from terminal 4 today, but I don't think that's any guarantee of where we'll be. Thanks for any input!
It's been a year since I last flew out of LAX but I remember choices being pretty bad, and most places were $10 a pint. Probably tied with Vegas for lack of decent options. Get Up Offa That Brown or some other Golden Road was the best I came up with. There are a couple of places in Tom Bradley terminal pre-screening you can check out since you might be in terminal 4 (American?) but I don't think there was anything craft-y there at the time. Here are the choices behind security in terminal 4. http://www.lawa.org/uploadedFiles/LAX/pdf/T4.pdf
Sounds like American Airlines. Out of T4. With 2 hours? I wouldn't even go outside of the airport. I believe in T4 the gourmet truck Kogi Truck is open now. I could be wrong. It might be inside Tom Bradley, which is right next to T4. Also is Tom Bradley is Rock & Brews. The food is mediocre. They do have a decent selection of craft beer. Most of the restaurants in the terminals have craft on tap these days. If you decide to go outside the airport Uber it to either El Segundo Brewing Co (5 minute drive) or to Three Weavers (5 minutes also). But then you will down one or two quick ones and uber it back and take a chance with TSA. Across the street from El Segundo is Rock & Brews. You might as well go to the Tom Bradley R&B.
I travel out of there alot and have never found anything great. T6/united gates has a Gordon Biersch place I think, I usually end up at a Mexican beach cantina style place drinking negra modelos because its always close to where my Santa Barbara connection is.
GB is gone. I believe Redondo Beach Brewing Co is there now. And they have guest taps. Not much. Some. In T7 we have Rolling Stones restaurant (like Rock & Brews) that has several taps of craft. Like I said most places are serving some craft, Stone IPA, etc. Its a start. I'm there 5 days a week for work so I really don't pay attention on whats on tap. Can't drink while working. But I will sneak off and fill a growler or 2 at El Segundo or stop by Whole Foods to see what bottles they have.
I only fly with Virgin, in T3. The only real option in there is Gladstones. I think last time I was there they only had 6 options, maybe 8. I wasn't aware that you could access other terminals from each other. These other options sound so much better. But it is something I can live with if I have to choose between having crap beer options or flying any other airline.
I'm not sure about T1-4. You can access each terminal from 5-8 without having to go through TSA. And you cannot access TB terminal from 3 or 4. OP has to go outside to get to Rock & Brews at TB terminal. But it's a quick 5-10 minute walk if he has only 2 hours or less/more to kill. And I believe he can look online to see what is on tap.
T3 is isolated as far as I can tell in my explorations. If I could kill a bit of time in another terminal with more than Stella, Bud, and Golden Road I would love it. is the R&B past security? Or next time I fly can I go past security in Tom Bradley with my Virgin ticket?
it would take 5 minutes just to hail a taxi "go right on in sir" *terrorist taking notes about how to get past security with a bottle share*
Tom Bradley has a food court with bar and some limited tap options pre-screening. It's just around the corner from T3 so you can at least check it out before going past TSA in T3. Virgin lounge had Anchor Steam last time I used it.
Thanks all for your input. Like I said in OP, we're not planning on leaving the airport, so just looking for options in the terminals. I'll look into what I see here. Thanks!
Never been, but there is a new place that claims to have a selection of local craft beer called DRINK LA. I hang out at the tequila bar. The bastards closed the one I've frequented for 20 years, so now I go to Border Grill. Good food, too. Bring me presents!
