Really enjoyed the 5/5/2015 Morph this weekend! I've heard the Santilli referred to as a 'house" and "flagship" IPA... Does this mean Santilli is planned for year-round release? @masterob8 and do you guys have planned to keep the recipe set in stone or more flexible like the current Morph setup? Thanks!

Yes, Santilli is planned to be year-round and the recipe is pretty much set in stone. We might make some small tweaks from time to time to improve it but it will stay consistent. As mentioned previously it will be the 3/10 batch of Morph (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28609/162843/) which based on the reviews seems well received. First batch is getting canned next week on 5/19. We will be giving out the glass below to the first 100 people that bring in a canned donation for the Greater Boston Food bank too. After that we will have some more glasses for sale.

    Cheers all!

Yup! Should have both by open (noon) on 5/19. Will also have a fresh batch of Whirlpool cans that day too. But those will likely be a bit later than noon.

Has pricing been finalized for Santilli 4-packs yet? I assume/hope these will also see distribution? Looking forward to these!

Price has been set to $14 per 4 pack at the taproom. We hope retailers follow a similar price point but they all mark things up differently. Cans will also see distribution but they will be less of them when compared to previous batches of Morph. Moving to the big cans is awesome but it also means we will get 25% less cases (because each 4 pack has 25% more beer!) than what we currently have to sell. Same batch sizes as the Morph runs. Cheers!

Ha, that makes a lot of sense to me. I said in my check-in on Untappd that that particular Morph iteration seemed to be "the prototypical Night Shift IPA". Very aromatic and fruity but with a solid bitterness accompanying. Honestly, not even my favorite of your IPAs, but it seemed like the flavor profile ideal you guys were dancing around for a while now.

    Howdy all,

We are pretty pumped about the price point for the new cans. The 4 packs now include 16 oz of MORE beer and the cost per ounce has dropped from 0.25 cents to 0.21 cents which is a savings of $2.00 per 4 pack! With the printed cans and the new brewhouse we have achieved some cost savings and decided to pass that onto our customers. Hell the price of $14 for 64oz of canned beer is cheaper than any growler fill we have ever offered. And trust me it costs us more to can than it does to fill a growler. How is that price not awesome?

As I mentioned previously in this thread comparing our costs to Tree House and Alchemist are very different. First because Boston area rent is absurdly high. We pay 6 times more per square foot as space out in Monson area. We also have different costs than Tree House/Alchemist. We don't own a canning line and have to pay someone to can the product. The list of difference could go on forever but its never apples to apples to compare costs between breweries.

At the end of the day, if its too expensive for you don't buy it. There are plenty of other breweries that have bigger economics of scale, lower costs, and can sell you beer at a lower price point. We can't come close to keeping up with the demand for the can beers we produce so if you need to pass on the cans then I am sure someone else would love to enjoy the tasty beer inside.

    Cheers,
    Rob

Maybe I missed it earlier, but do you guys have a canning line now, or are you still using Iron Heart?

I don't get the squabbling over price. While not wine, craft beer is still not a cheap hobby.

Even if you are buying two 4-packs a week the difference between NS and something like SNPA is at most a few hundred dollars a year. And sure, compare it to Julius but when you factor in time of driving out to Monson and potentially waiting in line I'd say they're pretty equivalent.

I think it is great to see the 16oz cans and personal feel $14 a 4 pack is a great price. The price has come down from what we were paying for the 12oz cans. I personally can't wait to get Whirlpool in the 16oz cans also.

Wasn't JA something like $10/4pk (500mL) when they appeared in 2012? They would have been around 2k-3k bbl at the time, which is about what NSB says they can hit in their new brewery.
