Most of the 90+ stuff is draft only or out of season right now. Breakside IPA and Topcutter are good recommendations. That or or get growlers.

Well, if you're going by BA scores, you'll likely find nothing "world class" around here. As is being discussed in this thread: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/whats-with-fremonts-ratings-on-beer-advocate.282508/ , those of us locally that review/rate, tend to be tough graders. In all honesty, and zero homerism, we have so many great beers around, that great is our average, and we tend to score accordingly. We'll tell you what our best local stuff is, and we hope you enjoy it, but at least in the NW, going by BA scores will cause you to miss a lot of World Class brews.

If I was visiting Seattle and just wanted to grab some local stuff to take home to share, I'd swing by Fremont and Reuben's and stock up on what I could find. If I had more time I'd go to Chuck's, Beer Junction etc. and grab some Bourbon Abominable and other more rare stuff, although as has already been established there's no rare beer here.

Well, looking at the lists for imperial stouts, DIPAs, and single IPAs, here are the "world class" BA-rated beers on the shelves: AleSmith Speedway Stout, Perennial Abraxas (I think), Stone Enjoy By, and Firestone Walker Double Jack.

Unless you know something I don't, you won't find Abraxas. But I agree, that one really is a world-class imperial stout.

I figure you're right about not finding any. I had a draft at Mammoth and saw some in their cooler, but that was a while back now that I think about it.

Correct. My son goes to Seattle University. When checking out the school a couple of years ago, we stayed at the Hilton downtown and had dinner at Taphouse. Since we had been driving for 13 hours, we wanted something quick and near the hotel. It worked out great. I had Dogfishhead Aprihop and North Coast Brother Theolonious. Good food and nice atmosphere. Local. No.

For those who got Pikes Place, it's worth trying Pikes Brewery. Once again, not local, but the beer is not bad (Note: We didn't try the food).

Subsequently, I have had a chance to visit Elysian - Capitol Hill. Spent a lovely fall afternoon having a few beers and watching football.

Fremont and a few other are on my list. We may be there in June and definitely will be their in August for a wedding (Tacoma).

It's Pike. PIKE. It's not possessive of anything. Market and brewery.

Sorry, nothing personal. I had to get that off my chest.

Actually, Pike Brewing is very local. It's one of the more "touristy" places I send folks to, and I usually swing by for at least a pint if I'm in that area. Food is decent there. Nothing outstanding, but I've had anything terible either.

I saw Andrew Zimmern saying "Pike's Place" on some show recently and almost threw something at him.

I would agree that Pike is a good stop if you're near the market. Decent beer and some tasty food.
Not many options in that area so you're lucky to have a beer place when the wife drags you down there.
It's also near the Seattle Art Museum.

Cloudburst soon at some point in the same vicinity as Pike. The other night I was at Holy Mountain and overheard some brewery industry people saying there was a party at the site later that evening.

Actually, if you're really hyper-local (like, been here for 50 years or more), there's a fair chance that you'll call our local airplane company "Boeing's". I've known several folks who called it that, including some who spent a career on the factory floor. I never figured out if it was just a habitual mistake, or whether in long ago times, people called it "Boeing's", because it was, you know, Bill Boeing's factory.

I always noticed the possessive, but never thought I should correct anyone. For all I know, they're the ones who are right.

BTW, younger folks who worked there called it the Lazy B.

My grandpa does that. He worked there forever before retiring when I was a kid in the early 80s. My dad was also a Boeing lifer and retired a few years back.

This. I've always felt this was the primary reason BA review scores aren't higher for many NW beers. When one's expectations are so very high, it's hard to be wowwed by anything.
