Just went to Trillium today for a quick pick up before traffic became a nightmare. When I walked in, it smelled like a tropical, mango-ish hop bomb. Many times I've walked into other breweries it smells industrial or non descript, so was a great surprise and really added to the experience. Can't think of many other breweries that consistently smell like this, and am a regular at both Jacks Abby and Nightshift. Is this specific to Trillium, or do others always smell great?

I used to live a couple miles up the road from the Guinness brewery in Dublin years ago. Every couple of days I would get this great roasted malt smell wafting down wind. Loved it...

When they're brewing almost all do. Even places with so-so beer smell magical while brewing.
I think the only one I've had that truly stood out was Weihenstephan. It's on top of a really steep hill and it isn't very easy to locate...but you can find the brewery and braustuberl by smell alone. It's almost like being Toucan Sam - just follow your nose.

I toured the Coors brewery in Golden in 1979. Can't get that nasty smell out of my mind. Horrendous. Couldn't even drink the free beer at the end, it tasted like the nasty smell.

Just walked by Pizza Port.. Caught the most amazing aroma of mashing grains wafting from the building. Working across the street is awesome.

I second the Alchemist. I used to love stopping in there after a day on the slopes. Even when they weren't brewing, that place smelled amazing.

The one that sticks out for me is New Belgium, but probably because it was my first brewery tour. That smell of roasted malt may be my favorite smell in the world.

I lived a block from Gordon Biersch's production brewery in San Jose for years. It smelled wonderful.

I think it was the canning more than the brewing that made it smell so great.

To be honest, I don't like the smell of wort/mash all that much. Hops, though—mmmm.

I shit you not, I read the title as "Best smelling Brewer."

I was going to vote for Todd Mott, but now I'm voting for Hill Farmstead instead.

I've always thought breweries smelled like warm pee, maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Then again it was near the Olympia Brewery in Tumwater, WA. so that may explain it

My first brewery tour, at age 12 (thanks Dad), was August Schell brewery in MN and all I remember was rotten grain smell. Like a farm that had all gone bad.
